Gratitude on Nalanda Patron’s Day

18 March is observed as “Nalanda Patron’s Day” – an annual programme to commemorate and appreciate all our donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed tremendously to the growth of Nalanda, and by extension, to the development of Buddhist education.  Commemorated since 2007, the date marks the birth anniversary of Nalanda Buddhist Society’s late Spiritual Advisor – Venerable Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Thero who would be 103 if he were alive.

Nalanda Sungai Petani holds 8th A.G.M.

On Saturday 13 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani (SP) Branch held their 8th Annual General Meeting at the NEO Centre in SP, with Branch Chairman Bro. Song Wai Leng presiding.  The meeting was well attended by Branch members who followed the Covid-19 SOPs strictly but gladly as they gathered on this important occasion.

“Nalanda Patron’s Day” is an annual programme to commemorate and appreciate all donors, benefactors and volunteers who have contributed to the growth of Nalanda over the years, and by extension, to the development of Buddhist education.  Nalanda Buddhist Society first observed “Patron’s Day” on 18 March 2007, in conjunction with the birth anniversary of our late teacher and spiritual adviser – Venerable Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero.

A year since 1st Covid-19 death in Malaysia

On 17 March 2020, Malaysia grimly recorded its 1st Covid-19 fatality in Kuching, just a day after a nationwide lockdown was announced.  Today, the death toll in Malaysia is over 1,200 while globally, that figure is almost 2.7 million.  In this period of economic hardship and social upheaval, many of us  endured uncertainty, worry and anxiety in dealing with new challenges which arise almost every day.

On Sunday 7 March, members of Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch gathered joyfully at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang for their 8th AGM.  The meeting was also joined by Nalanda Buddhist Society President, Sis. Evelyn Chow, Honorary Secretary Sis. Santi Cheang, Board of Management member Bro. Lee Kong Foo and EXCO member Sis. Nandini Tan.

As the world grapples with a global pandemic, let us also not forget the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Eastern Japan 10 years ago today, on 11 March 2011. Bamiyan Buddhas return to life

The majestic Buddhas of Bamiyans made a monumental return today in 3D with laser light technology projected over where it used to stand.  The event called “A Night with Buddha” was organised to mark 20 years since the cultural heritage was lost forever when the Taliban destroyed them in March 2001.

Notice of Nalanda’s 18th Annual General Meeting

We invite all Nalanda members registered at Sri Serdang headquarters to attend the 18th Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) to be held on Sunday, 21 March 2021, 2.00pm, at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  The Secretariat and Treasury will table their working and financial reports respectively and the election of a new Board of Management will be conducted.
