‘Open is the door to deathlessness’

‘Open is the door to deathlessness’

Let us honour the Buddha by learning, practising and reflecting on Dhamma.

On the eve of the Vesakhā full-moon, Bodhisatta Gotama sat under a large Pipal tree in Uruvela with an indefatigable determination to His goal of Enlightenment.  Having realised that neither the rigours of extreme ascetism nor the luxuries of sensuality bear fruit to liberation, the Buddha-to-be resolved that He would not leave the seat until He had attained the highest wisdom and unshakable peace.

It is on this night over 2,600 years ago, that the Buddha attained Perfect Enlightenment and became a Sammā Saṃbuddha.  He declared “Delivered am I; the rounds of rebirth are ended; fulfilled is the Holy Life; done is what that is needed to be done.  There is no more of this state again.”  Until His Passing Away, He compassionately and skilfully taught this path to realisation to humanity, so that we too may free ourselves from the fetters of suffering.

Let us honour the Buddha by learning, practising and reflecting on Dhamma on this auspicious occasion.  We invite you to join us for the Buddha Day Eve service tonight at 8.30pm and the Buddha Day Observance tomorrow at 9.30am on Nalanda Facebook ‘Live’.  All are welcome!
