On Mother’s Day, many friends responded to our campaign to sponsor a tree to be planted in Wisdom Park in honour of our mothers, and to help Mother Earth at the same time. We would like to thank all donors and sponsors for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
On Monday, the planting of the sponsored trees started in earnest and will continue throughout the month until early June. It was carried out by seasoned and sun-tanned volunteers nicknamed the “green warriors”. Firstly, suitable healthy trees were selected from our nursery and carried to the designated planting spot. After every tree was planted, volunteers recited verses of blessings to honour the sponsor and his or her mother. The trees will be cared for by volunteers until they are firmly established, which may take up to two years.
Due to the current “Conditional Movement Control Order”, we have to keep the number of volunteers small and maintain appropriate ‘standard operating procedures’ when planting trees. With fewer volunteers allowed, it may take a while longer to plant all the sponsored trees. Nevertheless, our “green warriors” feel honoured every time they get an opportunity to green the world.
The entire Wisdom Park campus is gradually being transformed with more greenery each passing week. We envisage that it will become a tranquil and pleasant place for Buddhist education and contemplation in the near future. We share with you some photographs taken at Wisdom Park last weekend. The earlier batches of trees are all doing well with tender loving care. Thank you for helping to make this vision possible! Sadhu anumodana.
