Powerful floods and the collapse of two dams in eastern Libya have devastated the city of Derna of around 100,000 people. More than 5,000 casualties have been confirmed with fears that up to 20,000 people have lost their lives due to the number of neighbourhoods and communities destroyed.
As rival factions in the government and international rescue missions work hand in hand to coordinate relief efforts, we pray that the workers be successful in carrying out their respective tasks and be free from harm and danger. May the Libyan people find strength and resilience in facing this calamity.
