Songkran Greetings สุขสันต์วันสงกรานต์

A procession of the Buddha image brought on to the streets filled with devotees on Songkran.

Nalanda wishes our Venerable Ajahns and Thai friends a joyous Songkran Festival.  May the coming year bring much peace, happiness, and well-being to all Thai people around the world.

Rod naam dum hua’ – the act of pouring water over the hands of elders to symbolise respect and gratitude towards them.

Songkran celebration is traditionally connected with water.  ‘Rod naam dum hua’ is a term that describes the act of pouring water over the hands of elders. This is usually performed by children symbolically to pay respects to their parents and grandparents.  The elders would then give blessings and offer their best wishes for the coming year.

Best wishes on Songkran to all Thai people, from Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia.
