4th Memorial Day for teachers

Today marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of eminent Pāli Scholar Venerable Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and renowned meditation teacher Acharya Satya Narayan Goenka.  Nalanda Centre will host a simple tribute to both teachers at 7.30pm this evening with meditation and chanting.

Religion in ASEAN

8 August 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.  Malaysia, along with Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore were its founding members back in 1967.  Brunei joined ASEAN after its independence in 1984, followed by Vietnam (in 1995), Laos (1997), Myanmar (1997), and Cambodia (1999).

3rd Anniversary of MH17

2014 was the worst year in the history of Malaysian aviation, when two Boeing 777 airliners belonging to Malaysia Airlines were lost – MH370 vanished mysteriously over the Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014; and MH17 was struck by a missile over Ukraine on 17 July 2014.  The two incidents resulted in a combined loss of 537 lives.

17 June 2017 marks the 99th birth anniversary of the late Venerable Ajahn Chah of Thailand.   Nalandians humbly pays tribute to this great monk who was one of the most influential and revered Dhamma teachers of the modern era.  Thus, today is ‘Ajahn Chah Day’ at Nalanda.

Ajahn Buddhadāsa’s 111th birth anniversary

Ajahn Buddhadāsa’s philosophy, way of life, and teachings continue to have a positive influence on the development of Thai Buddhist movement.This week, we commemorate the life and teachings of one of the most notable Buddhist teachers of the 20th century – Ajahn Buddhadāsa Indapañño (Phra Dharmakosacarya) of Thailand.  Ajahn Buddhadāsa was born on 27 May 1906 in Chaiya, Southern Thailand, to a Chinese Hokkien father and Thai mother.  He renounced the worldly life at age 20 and led an exemplary life of an ascetic bhikkhu until his passing.

It’s Nalanda’s 14th anniversary today

Today marks the 14th anniversary of the establishment of Nalanda Buddhist Society, the 8th anniversary of Nalanda Book Café, and the 5th year of Nalanda Youth Centre.  As usual, Nalandians from near and far came together to celebrate ‘Nalanda Day’ (every 1st of May) with joy, gratitude, and gusto!

3rd Anniversary of MH370

Today marks the third anniversary of Malaysia Airlines MH370′s mysterious disappearance.  Even after intensive searching, the aircraft has not been located.  Thus, many questions remain unanswered as to the fate of that flight, and its 239 passengers and crew.
