Nalandians “take leave” for CNY break

On Friday, 29 January Nalandians came together to express their deep gratitude for Nalanda founder Bro. Tan for his invaluable guidance and wise counsel throughout the year.  In the best of Buddhist traditions, before “taking leave” for the New Year break, Nalandians also sought forgiveness from Bro. Tan, their teacher and mentor, who has worked tirelessly for the benefit of the Buddhist community.

NEO Centre – “Small is beautiful”

Since its opening last month, the Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani has received many compliments for its simple elegance and pragmatic design.  The 4,300 square feet facility houses a Dhamma Teaching & Meditation Hall, a reference library, office, meeting room, two guest rooms, and a kitchen.

NEO Centre Sungai Petani opened

On Friday, 25 December 2015, the Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani was officiated by Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nāyaka Thero.  The simple but meaningful ceremony was attended by Nalanda members from all over the country.

Happy New Year 2016

Last night, more than 200 Nalandians assembled for midnight chanting and a Dhamma sharing by Bro. Tan, where he explained the meaning of the Buddhist maxim, “Ye dhamma hetuppabhava…”   It was a wonderful gathering to ‘calm down’ to the New Year, and a great way to begin 2016 – full of spirit and spirituality.

Thank you for a fantastic year!

2015 had been a great year for Nalanda.  In the past 12 months, we witnessed the opening of Nalanda Centre annex building and NEO Centre Sungai Petani, as well as the initiation of ‘Wisdom Park’ – the first integrated Buddhist educational facility in Malaysia.  We are full of gratitude and appreciation for all the support rendered to us for the completion of vital Dhamma-learning facilities, and for the hosting of many impactful programmes and successful events.

Members’ Convention concluded in high spirit

The 4th National Nalanda Members' Convention in Sungai Petani has concluded well. Members from Serdang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani felt the joy and camaraderie of being with 'kalyana mitta' and having fruitful discussions.

Nalandians embark on journey north

Earlier this morning, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur gathered at Nalanda Centre for pūja at 7am.  It marked the beginning of their journey north for the 4th National Nalanda Members’ Convention in Kedah.  The convention also coincides with the Officiating Ceremony of Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre in Sungai Petani.

‘Mangala Squad’ in action

Over the last few days, the fantastic ‘Mangala Squad’ comprising Nalandians from Kedah, Serdang and Kuala Lumpur congregated at NEO Centre Sungai Petani for a big cleaning exercise.  The Centre is almost completed with just some furniture and equipment to be installed.

Nalanda ‘Education Day’

Every year, ‘Nalanda Education Day’ is celebrated around 11 December with a series of Dhamma programmes for adults, teenagers, and children.  This date marks the anniversary of the launching of Nalanda’s “Education Philosophy” – which calls for a holistic approach in education, balancing and combining knowledge, skills, values and culture, hence leading to integral development of people.

Felicitations to Ven. H. Gunaratana

Nalanda Buddhist Society members extend our felicitations and warmest wishes to Venerable Sri Pandita Dr. Henepola Gunaratana Māha Nāyaka Thero on his 88th birthday, today!  Popularly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana is a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher and author of several influential works, such as the best-selling ‘Mindfulness in Plain English’.
