2004 Tsunami Remembrance Day

Nine years ago today, on 26 December 2004, a massive earthquake off Sumatra triggered a Tsunami that swept across 14 countries and killed a quarter million people.  It was among the worst natural disasters in human history.  But the aftermath of the tragedy saw an outpouring of compassion and donation, which brought out the best aspects of humanity.

Ground-breaking Workshop on Buddhist Education

Over the last weekend, Nalanda officers gathered at our ‘spiritual home’ in Sri Serdang for a ground-breaking workshop on the ‘Nalanda Education Model’, presented by Founder Bro. H S Tan.  The workshop was truly a great learning experience for everyone, especially for teachers, facilitators, and coordinators of Nalanda’s educational programmes.

Nalanda Officers attend Education Workshop

Since early this morning, Nalandian officers have been arriving at our ‘spiritual home’ – Nalanda Centre, to attend the 2-day Nalanda Education Workshop.  In the first session from 10am to 12pm, Bro.Tan introduced the concept of “Essential Education” that will form the basis for Nalanda’s educational programmes for the next 20 years.

Happy 86th Birthday ‘Bhante G’

Nalandians extend our warmest wishes and respect to Venerable Sri Pandit Henepola Gunaratana Māha Nāyaka Thero on his 86th birthday today!  We were truly honoured to host Ven. Gunaratana at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang for 8 days, from 22 – 29 November, and also at NEO Centre Johor Bahru for a day on 21 November.  Popularly known as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana is a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher and author of several influential works, such as the best-selling ‘Mindfulness in Plain English’. Read more

Nalanda Institute Convocation Ceremony 2013

Nalanda Institute Convocation Ceremony for participants of BPS 302 – Certificate in Buddhist Studies was joyously held on 30 November at Nalanda Centre.  The ceremony began with an ‘ovada’ or advice from Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama, the Director of Nalanda Institute. He complimented all graduates for their diligence and determination over the past 5 months to complete the course.  Achariya Vijaya also quoted ‘Mangala Sutta‘ to the audience, which contains Buddha’s advice on the way to live a noble way of life which ultimately leads to liberation from suffering.
