The world stands with Barcelona

The string of terrorist attacks and attempted attacks on 17 August left at least 14 people dead and more than 100 injured in Barcelona, Spain.  The terrorist group ‘Islamic State’ has claimed responsibility for this inhumane and criminal deed.  This act must be strongly condemned by every citizen of the world.

Sri Lanka inundated by monsoon flood

CNN reported on 29 May that at least 151 people have been killed and 111 are missing (please read the latest updates at the bottom of this article) due to floodings from monsoon rains across southwestern portions of Sri Lanka, according to the country’s Ministry of Disaster Management.  The severe weather has also displaced nearly half a million people, and triggered landslides throughout the country.

Prayers for Colombian mudslide victims

Torrential rains that hit southern Colombia triggered a devastating mudslide in the city of Mocoa in the early hours of Friday 31 March, killing at least 250 people.  The majority of victims were soundly asleep at home when the tragedy occurred.

The world is saddened by yet another terrorist attack in London. Terrorism is now a global phenomenon. Condolences to the people of Sarawak

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Tan Sri Adenan Satem and to the people of Sarawak, on the sudden passing of their Chief Minister.  Tan Sri Adenan died of heart attack in Kuching this afternoon; he was 73.  May he rest in Peace.

Prayers for victims of air-crash

A tragic air-crash took place yesterday in Colombia, South America where a chartered airplane carrying the Brazilian football team ‘Chapecoense’ crashed near the town of Rionegro.  75 passengers and crew on board were killed, but miraculously, six others survived.  The ill-fated Avro RJ85 was en route from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to Medellin, Colombia when it crashed.

Chao Khun Eak passed away today

We are saddened to announce that the Chief monk of Kelantan Thai Sangha and Abbot of Wat Phikulthong Vararam in Kampung Terbok, Tumpat – the most Venerable Chao Khun Eak – passed away peacefully at 5.15am this morning.  He was 85.

Horrific train tragedy in India

At least 142 people were killed early today when a Patna-Indore Express train derailed near India’s northern city of Kanpur. Over 150 passengers were injured, 58 of them seriously. Sadly, more than 70 passengers could still be trapped in mangled rail cars.

Condolences to families of fire victims

Nalandians offer our deepest condolences to the families of patients at Johor Bahru’s Sultanah Aminah Hospital who perished in a fire yesterday, 25 October.  The blaze occurred at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where all six casualties were warded.  As a result of the fire, other patients and staff at the hospital were temporarily evacuated from the building.
