Alms-round at Sri Petaling & Happy Garden Markets

On Saturday 4 July, the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ Programme at Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets was held with two venerable Sangha members going on alms-round.  The devotees and volunteers welcomed Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan and Exco members, Bro. Charlie and Bro. Pee at NEO Centre Kuala Lumpur.  The programme started at 7.30am with the morning Pūja and chanting session led by Bro. Tan.  Thereafter, volunteers and devotees proceeded to Sri Petaling and Happy Garden for the alms-round.

Ven. Alokavamsa at Nalanda Centre

Nalanda Centre was honoured to host Indonesian venerable Bhikkhu U Alokavamsa for a short stay from 13 to 15 June.  Ven. Alokavamsa is a practitioner at Pa-Auk Meditation Centre in Myanmar, and transited for two nights at Nalanda Centre providing the privilege for Nalandians to offer dāna to venerable.  We wish venerable the best of health and much spiritual progress.  We also thank all devotees for your kindness and hospitality to Ven. Alokavamsa.  Sadhu anumodana.

Nalandians attend ‘Dāna’ at Mangala Lodge

On Friday 8 May, scores of Nalandians led by President Sis. Evelyn Chow visited Kampar, Perak, to witness the consecration of Buddha-Altar at Mangala Lodge.  Venerable Nyanaramsi Maha Thero, Abbot of Subang Jaya (Buddhist Association) Vihāra, presided over the meaningful and joyful ceremony.

Mass Food Offering on Wesak ‘Buddha Day’

On Sunday 3 May, a “Mass Food Offering” was held at Nalanda Centre from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, where cooked meals were offered freely to the community.  This food offering has been a Nalandian custom since the first year of Wesak celebrations in Sri Serdang.  Devotees would normally cook or pack food to be given to visitors to Nalanda Centre, as an act of charity and to cultivate generosity.

Dāna at proposed NEO Centre Sungai Petani

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch invited Venerable Thipako and Venerable Chye from Sammāditthi Meditation Grove for lunch dāna at the proposed Nalanda Outreach & Education (NEO) Centre, located in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani.  The dāna was specially arranged to mark the beginning of construction work of the new centre, and to invoke the blessings of the ‘Three Jewels’ for the successful completion of the project.

Venerable Ajahn Sumedho at Nalanda Centre

On Sunday 15 March, we were honoured to host Venerable Ajahn Sumedho and 3 accompanying monks for Dāna (alms-food offering) followed by Dhamma teaching at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  A large crowd had gathered at Nalanda Centre for the opportunity to see Ajahn Sumedho, and to listen to his Dhamma teachings.

‘Pindacāra’ in Kuala Lumpur

On Saturday 7 March, the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ Programme at Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets was held with three venerable Sangha members going on alms-round.  Many regular devotees gathered along the ‘Pindacāra’ route waiting for the arrival of the venerable monks to offer food.  Some market-goers were so inspired by the sight of composed monks that they promptly joined in the offering!

8 March 2015 marks the 1st anniversary of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370′s mysterious disappearance over the Indian Ocean, with 239 passengers and crew on board.  We invite everyone to participate in a Special Memorial Service dedicated to the victims of this tragedy.  Let us be united in our compassion and generate thoughts of mettā (loving-kindness) to the grieving families.
