Nalanda Buddhist Society observed our annual ‘Sangha Day’ on Sunday, 9 November. On this important occasion, the Buddhist laity took the opportunity to express gratitude and support for the Sangha (monastic community) by offering robes and other requisites, thus practising generosity and humility through the acts of giving.

31 August 2014 not only marked the 57th Independence Day of Malaya, but also the 8th anniversary of our late Spiritual Advisor Ven. Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda’s passing. Nalandians gathered on this day to commemorate our late teacher’s lifetime missionary work and celebrate his spirit and teachings that brought a huge impact to the Buddhist community.

On Sunday 13 July, more than 100 devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to commemorate ‘Dhamma Day’. As the day signifies the preaching of Buddha’s first discourse after his Enlightenment, Bro. Tan led devotees in reciting the famous ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta’.

On 5 and 6 July, 27 Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch Junior Dharma School students between the ages of 9 and 12 years old stayed-in at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. The objectives of the stay-in were to foster bonding among facilitators and students, to learn Buddhist culture and chanting, as well as to involve parents in rendering service to the Buddhist community. In the early morning of Saturday 7 June, Nalandians and devotes gathered at the Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets to take part in the monthly ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round). We were grateful to welcome two monks from the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul to go on ‘Pindacāra’.
