Illuminating talks on ‘Brahmavihāra’

Over two Sundays on 11 and 18 September, Sis. Santī Cheang gave two illuminating talks at Nalanda Centre on ‘Brahmavihāra’ – the four spiritual qualities of ‘mettā’ (loving-kindness), ‘karunā’ (compassion), ‘muditā’ (sympathetic joy), and ‘upekkhā’ (equanimity).

Visit by Firefly Mission Singapore

On Saturday 22 October, 90 members of Firefly Mission Singapore visited Nalanda Centre as part of their ‘Kathina’-season tour of Malaysia, led by their President Dr. Ng Yee Kong.  This was the Mission’s fifth consecutive year visiting Nalanda, and one of the events Nalandians look forward to annually.

On Sunday 18 September, Nalanda Youth Centre hosted Samanerī Khanti Khemā, the Chairman of Dhamma Sukhā Meditation Centre, Missouri, USA.  Venerable Khanti Khemā gave a talk to the youths titled “The Way Out”.

Nalanda hosts Ayya Santinī today

Nalanda Centre is honoured to host Venerable Bhikkhunī Santinī Therī today for a short visit.  Ayya Santinī is a well-regarded meditation teacher and renowned Dhamma speaker from Indonesia.  She is the Abbess of Wisma Kusalayani, a bhikkhuni-training centre near Lembang in West Java.

Mental well-being leads to joyful living

Today is World Mental Health Day. Mental health is defined as “the absence of mental disorders”, which allows a person to function normally and resiliently in routine responsibilities in life.  Examples of mental sickness include prolonged stress, sadness, anger, disturbing obsessive or compulsive behaviour, neurosis, and psychosis.

On Sunday 14 August, Bro. Benny Liow was invited to give a Dhamma talk on the ‘Five Hindrances’ at Nalanda Centre.  With reference to Avarana Sutta (AN. 5.51), the Discourse on Obstacles, he explained the five types of mental blocks to spiritual progress.

Pindacāra at Taman O.U.G.

On Saturday 6 August, the Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch organised the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ (monks on alms-round) at the Taman O.U.G. and Happy Garden morning markets. Two venerable monks from Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple went on alms-round, allowing market-goers the opportunity to performing the meritorious act of offering food.
