On Saturday 7 December, Nalanda volunteers and devotees participated joyfully in our monthly Pindacāra (monks going on alms-round) at Taman O.U.G. and Happy Garden morning markets. We were very honoured to receive 3 senior monks on alms-round, including the Abbot of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple Ven. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero, and Abbot of Tusita Hermitage Ven. U Mangala.

Bro. Tan was warmly hosted by the Buddhist Fellowship of Indonesia (BFI) for 3 days, where he conducted Dhamma sharings and attended many meetings with BFI Committee Members. There were many precious, inspiring moments when people were connected to the Dhamma through those sharings and meetings.

The party was earlier received at Nalanda House, where Ven. Sanghasena had a meeting with Ven. Aggacitta Mahathero (Abbot of Sasanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Taiping) and Sayadaw U Kevala of Myanmar.

Devotees from as far as Penang and Alor Setar came to listen to the teachings at Central Kedah Buddhist Association. Bro. Tan spoke about the way to approach Dhamma – that is neither “landing short” of it, nor “over-reaching” it. The Buddha-Dhamma is defined as a “Way leading to the cessation of craving, through gradual learning, practice and realization”.

H S Tan to conduct a special meditation session and deliver a Dhamma Talk as part of the on-going Ajahn Buddhadasa Commemoration Programme. Quoting several discourses from the Anguttara Nikaya, Bro. Tan spoke about the qualities of an 'elder in the Dhamma'. One is reckoned an 'elder in the Dhamma' not by seniority in years; rather it is by the degree of virtue, true understanding of the teachings, meditative attainments, and penetrative wisdom.

GG Tan, Julie Ang, Lee Ah Yem, and Jennie Cheong who passed away in an accident 4 years ago while on a visit to India. Bro. Tan gave another uplifting talk in Mandarin on Sunday 25 August, in honour of Nalanda's late Spiritual Advisor Ven. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero.
