Y.E.P. guided in meditation by Ven. Mettananda

On Friday 17 November, Nalanda members and devotees joined the participants of the Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), for Meditation Night led by Ven. Mettananda.  Sharing the importance and benefit of meditation, Ven. Mettananda started by asking how accurate we think our perception of reality is and pointed out that historically, widely believed ‘realities’ have been overturned such as the perception that the world is flat.

Ven. Sanghasena relays value of being born human

On Wednesday 15 November, Nalanda members and devotees gathered for an opportunity to learn from Ven. Sanghasena, Founder and President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh.  Having arrived just the day before, everyone was very happy to once again meet with Ven. Sanghasena who last visited Nalanda in 2017.

Learning with Sis. Nandinī at Youth Sunday Service

On Sunday 15 October, Nalanda youths delved deeper into understanding the Five Hindrances and how to overcome them gradually, with Sis. Nandinī Tan at the Youth Sunday Service.  In the Āhārasutta (Samyutta Nikaya 46.51), the Buddha taught that giving careless attention to things such as sensual desires, ill-will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and doubt, become nutriments for the arising of the hindrances.

Hosting Ajahn Jayasaro with gratitude and appreciation

On 21 to 22 July, Nalanda members and volunteers were privileged to host Ven. Ajahn Jayasaro, during a short stopover in Kuala Lumpur, on his way to Medan, Indonesia.  Members warmly welcomed Ajahn back to Nalanda Centre, after his last visit before the pandemic began, in 2019.

Dhamma Talk in Mandarin by Ven. Prof KL Dhammajoti

We invite you to join us tomorrow, Monday 24 July, for a Dhamma teaching by Ven. Prof Dhammajoti, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent, and one of the leading scholars on the Abhidhamma.  Ven. Dhammajoti graduated from the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka with a doctorate in philosophy.  His teaching career started in 1982 as a senior lecturer with the university and became a professor 10 years later.

Sunday morning service & Dhamma talk by Ven. Subharo

We joyfully invite you to join us this Sunday 23 July for the weekly morning service at Nalanda Centre.  The service starts at 9am with meditation, offerings and chanting.  This week’s service features a Dhamma teaching by Venerable Subharo, who hails from Canada and was ordained in 2008.  He currently resides in Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, a leading monk training centre located in Taiping Perak.

Ajahn Kalyano visits Sungai Petani

On Tuesday 11 July, Nalanda leaders Sis. Buddhini, Sis. Nandini and Sis. Evelyn together with members of Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch were honoured to host Ven. Ajahn Kalyano, Abbot of Buddha Bodhivana Monastery in East Warburton, Victoria.  It was Ajahn’s first visit to Sungai Petani, and devotees up north were privileged to learn from this senior monk of the Ajahn Chah lineage.

Spirited learning at ‘Entering the Stream’ Workshop

From 8 – 10 July, over 80 participants, facilitators and volunteers gathered for the ‘Entering the Stream and Beyond’ Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop led by Āyasmā Aggacitta at Wisdom Park.  To prepare themselves for this topic of interest especially for Dhamma practitioners, participants have been having on-line discussions based on the workbook and supported by facilitators since May.
