On Sunday 8 May, the Buddhist Missionary Society of Malaysia (BMSM) organized a seminar on the ‘Historical Development of Buddhism’ as part of its Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ celebrations. Nalanda founder Bro. Tan joined renowned Nepali archaeologist Dr. Basanta Bidari and Australian venerable Bhikkhu Jaganatho on the panel of speakers to discuss the subject, with Prof. Ong Puay Liu as the moderator.
Read moreNalandians who attended the welcoming ceremony for the arrival of the Bamiyan Gandhāri manuscripts to Malaysia on 2 May also took the opportunity to visit another exposition held at the same venue. The “Awakening Force” exhibition is being held at Samadhi Vihara Shah Alam in conjunction with this Wesak month. The exhibition is organized by the Buddhist Missionary Society of Malaysia (BMSM), and will run until Wesak ‘Buddha Day’.

The world-famous collection was on a special exhibition tour of ASEAN countries, facilitated by the international affairs department of the Sangha Council of Thailand. The Malaysian leg was hosted at the Samadhi Vihara in Shah Alam.

Joanne, and youths helped to pack food for the needy at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Sungai Long campus. The event was organised by the UTAR Sungai Long Buddhist Society, in collaboration with the international hunger-relief organisation, ‘Stop Hunger Now’.

Sunanda Ong conducted a Dhamma workshop for members of Nottingham University Buddhist Society, Semenyih, in conjunction with its 6th anniversary. Sis. Sunanda spoke about positive transformation, highlighting the fact that true transformation can only come about when education is accompanied by cultivation. She impressed upon the students the importance of putting their Dhamma knowledge into practice if they wanted to see tangible results in their lives.

It was hosted and organised by Berjaya Youth, in collaboration with ‘Stop Hunger Now’, a non-profit organisation based in the US which aims to end world hunger by operating international food-relief.
Read moreIt was a night of great nostalgia for lovers of Buddhist songs as renowned Malaysian performers such as the Wayfarers and i-Gemz serenaded a crowd of 200 at ‘A Night of Buddhist Music’ on Saturday, 17 October. The musical soiree was hosted by the Buddhist Gem Fellowship (BGF). In his welcome speech, BGF President Datuk Seri Dr. Victor Wee said that music has the ability to bring joy to listeners; and if the lyrics were meaningful and inspiring, the message goes straight to the core and stays in their hearts.

The focus of the roundtable discussion was youth leadership and community service. Participants from various religious organisations gave constructive views on how best to build a better community for future generations.
