Since 2005, Nalanda Dhamma School has been providing holistic education to children and teenagers from the age of 10 to 17.  The School imparts necessary knowledge, skills, and most importantly, religious and moral values to equip the students for worldly responsibilities and eventually experience spiritual awakening in their lives.

Gratitude at Dhamma School Honours Day

On 31 December 2019, Nalanda Dhamma School facilitators, students and their parents, alumni, volunteers and guests gathered at Nalanda Centre for the annual School Appreciation and Honours Day.  This annual event celebrates the learning and progress of students throughout the year, and also serves to give thanks to teachers and parents who supported their learning.

Dhamma Family leaders’ training initiated in Johor Bahru

On Saturday 22 June, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch held its first Dhamma Family Leaders’ Training session for 18 members, getting ready for the formation of Dhamma Families in Johor Bahru later this year.  Trainees learned and discussed the Buddha’s teachings to strengthen their practice.  They were also trained in communication and facilitation skills, group dynamics, and the Nalanda Education Model.  The leaders will facilitate Dhamma Family gatherings in future to enable deeper learning and personal transformation.

On 31 December every year, Nalanda Dhamma School observes its “Appreciation & Honours Day” with facilitators, students and parents coming together to express their gratitude for each other, and to thank everyone’s dedication to learn the Dhamma.

Calling Dhamma School teachers to National Camp

Many Dhamma School teachers will readily admit that teaching Dhamma to today’s children and teenagers is a very daunting task.  With plenty of sensual objects to distract them, coupled with little life experience and ever shorter attention spans, the younger generation seems to have “a lot more dust in their eyes” to see the need for Dhamma in their lives.

Dhamma School teachers’ camp

“Good educators and Great education” form the backbone of every successful Dhamma school. Nalanda Buddhist Society, the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM), and the Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School (BISDS) are jointly organizing this first National Camp for Dhamma teachers to discuss how to share the Buddha’s teachings in a systematic, engaging, and effective manner.

Dhamma School outing to Putrajaya

On Sunday 19 February, Nalanda Dhamma School organised an outing for facilitators and students to Taman Putra Perdana in Putrajaya.  104 teenagers and children from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur branches spent a healthy and fun day out with their Dhamma friends, while learning the important values of good friendship and loving-kindness.

Dhamma School Facilitators’ Retreat

Over the Christmas weekend from 24 to 26 December, Nalanda Dhamma School (NDS) facilitators went to Kuala Selangor for their three-day annual get-together.  This year, the 25 facilitators from Serdang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru branches were joined by 10 Nalanda youths at the retreat.
