Indian monks and youths joined ‘Pindacāra’ programme

The ‘Pindacāra’ (alms-round) held on 3 March was indeed a joyous occasion as two young bhikkhus and 17 Buddhist youth leaders from India joined devotees in this monthly programme.  The bhikkhus and youths were in Malaysia for 10 days as part of the “Jambudvipa-Suvarnabhumi Buddhist Youth Exchange Programme”, which is Nalanda Buddhist Society’s long-term mission to help revitalize the proper learning and practice of Buddhism in its land of origin – India.

Visit to future monks’ training facility

On his recent trip to India, Nalanda founder Bro.Tan took the opportunity to visit Lokuttara Mahāvihāra, a Theravāda monastery near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, where he met with its abbot, Ven. Bodhipālo Mahāthera.  With the help of the laity, Ven. Bodhipālo reported that the All India Bhikkhu Sangha is constructing a training centre for Indian monks at the vihāra.

Tragic air-crash in Kathmandu

Just days after the 4th anniversary of MH370’s disappearance, another tragic air-crash happened this afternoon in Nepal when a turboprop passenger aircraft was attempting to land at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.  Flight BS 211 belonging to US-Bangla Airlines was flying on a scheduled flight from the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to Kathmandu with 71 people on board.

Rejoicing at Nalanda tonight

Theravāda Bhikkhu Training Centre to be built in India

India, the land of the Buddha, has not had a proper Buddhist monks’ training centre for locals in modern times.  Observing the critical need of having one, Upasaka Dr. Harshadeep Kamble, a senior government officer from Mumbai, his wife Mrs. Rojana Vanich Kamble, galvanised the All India Bhikkhu Sangha to construct such a facility in the vicinity of Aurangabad in Maharashtra State, Western India.

Youth Leaders’ Training Programme

From 27 February to 7 March 2018, Nalanda Buddhist Society will host the inaugural “Indian Buddhist Youth Leaders’ Training Programme” in Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur.  Nalanda is undertaking this important project in partnership with several Buddhist organizations in India as part of our long-term vision to propagate Buddha-Dhamma in its land of origin, and to revitalize the proper learning and practice of Buddhism there.

70 pilgrims begin their ‘Dhammayatra’

Following the successful two-week ‘Dhammayatra’ (pilgrimage) for Nalandian youths which just concluded on 4 December, another group of 70 adults from Nalanda Buddhist Society Malaysia and the Buddhist Fellowship of Singapore began their journey of Dhamma discovery to India and Nepal early this morning.

Nalanda youths leave for pilgrimage

Early in the morning of Tuesday 21 November, 40 Buddhist youths left Kuala Lumpur International Airport to begin a two-week ‘Dhammayatra’ (pilgrimage) to India and Nepal.  Led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan, everyone embarked on this spiritual journey with joyful thoughts and motivation.
