Inaugural inter-branch Conference

Nalandian officers and members from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani branches participated in the Inaugural Inter-branch Conference from 26 to 28 May at NEO Centre Johor Bahru.  The conference brought members together to share their joys, learning experiences, and challenges in operating a Nalanda branch.

Wesak Observance at NEO Centres

Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ commemorates the Blessed One’s Enlightenment 26 centuries ago.  This Wednesday’s full-moon marks the 2,561st anniversary of His passing; hence the Buddhist Era (B.E.) 2561.  Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centres in Johor Bahru, Sungai Petani, and Kuala Lumpur will observe ‘Buddha Day’ on 9 May (Wesak Eve) and 10 May (Wesak ‘Buddha Day’) with a series of programmes listed here.

Johor Bahru Branch 4th A.G.M.

The 4th Annual General Meeting of Nalanda Buddhist Society Johor Bahru Branch was held on Sunday 5 March, at NEO Centre Johor Bahru.  At the meeting, members were given updates of the Branch’s development in 2016, and discussed upcoming plans for this year.

School Honours Day in Johor Bahru

On Sunday 20 November, Nalanda Dhamma School in Johor Bahru celebrated the succesful completion of their second year with an “Appreciation & Honours Day”.  This year, 34 teenagers grew together with us at our spiritually-nourishing NEO Centre.

Teenagers learn Dhamma at holiday camp in Johor

The joy of camaraderie lingered in the hearts of 80 young participants after the 3-day Nalanda learning camp held from 2 to 4 December at Pure Karma Buddhist Centre, Johor.  Participating in the ‘friendship’-themed camp allowed the teenagers aged 13 to 17 the opportunity to learn and practise Dhamma joyfully alongside their kalyāna-mitta.

Back home to a “hero’s welcome”

On 1 December, 20 youths and students from Nalanda Dhamma School left for Johor Bahru to help conduct a Dhamma camp for teenagers there.  They returned joyfully to Sri Serdang on 4 December to a warm, late-night welcome by smiling teachers and parents.

Nalanda Free School Johor Bahru holds ‘Appreciation Day’

On Sunday 27 October, NEO Centre Johor Bahru was bustling with festive atmosphere as students, parents, teachers and volunteers gathered for the annual Nalanda Free School ‘Appreciation Day’.  The joyful occasion was to celebrate students’ academic achievements, positive learning attitude and good behaviour throughout the year. The teachers expressed approval of individual students not only for improvements seen in their exam results, but also in their conduct and overall character development.

Leaving for camp in Johor Bahru

Early this morning, 20 Nalandian youths and Dhamma School students gathered for chanting at Nalanda Centre before leaving for Johor Bahru to help conduct a 3-day Dhamma camp for teenagers there.  This trip is a wholesome start to their year-end school holidays as it promises much learning and community service.

Camp for teenagers this holiday

During the upcoming holiday, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch is organising a learning camp for teenagers between 13 and 17 years old.  The camp will be held from 2 to 4 December 2016, at Pure Karma Buddhist Centre, Taman Desa Cemerlang, Johor Bahru.  This educational camp will provide a healthy environment for teenagers to meet many ‘Beautiful Friends’ – friends with ‘beautiful’ behaviour, character, and mind.

School facilitators’ training camp

From 16 to 18 September, Nalanda Dhamma School Johor Bahru Branch organised an energising Facilitators’ Training for twenty facilitators.  The 3-day training camp was conducted by School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong, to develop greater leadership and facilitation skills among the officers.
