Nalanda Free School Johor Bahru holds ‘Appreciation Day’

On Sunday 27 October, NEO Centre Johor Bahru was bustling with festive atmosphere as students, parents, teachers and volunteers gathered for the annual Nalanda Free School ‘Appreciation Day’.  The joyful occasion was to celebrate students’ academic achievements, positive learning attitude and good behaviour throughout the year. The teachers expressed approval of individual students not only for improvements seen in their exam results, but also in their conduct and overall character development.

Leaving for camp in Johor Bahru

Early this morning, 20 Nalandian youths and Dhamma School students gathered for chanting at Nalanda Centre before leaving for Johor Bahru to help conduct a 3-day Dhamma camp for teenagers there.  This trip is a wholesome start to their year-end school holidays as it promises much learning and community service.

Camp for teenagers this holiday

During the upcoming holiday, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch is organising a learning camp for teenagers between 13 and 17 years old.  The camp will be held from 2 to 4 December 2016, at Pure Karma Buddhist Centre, Taman Desa Cemerlang, Johor Bahru.  This educational camp will provide a healthy environment for teenagers to meet many ‘Beautiful Friends’ – friends with ‘beautiful’ behaviour, character, and mind.

School facilitators’ training camp

From 16 to 18 September, Nalanda Dhamma School Johor Bahru Branch organised an energising Facilitators’ Training for twenty facilitators.  The 3-day training camp was conducted by School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong, to develop greater leadership and facilitation skills among the officers.

Condolences to families of fire victims

Nalandians offer our deepest condolences to the families of patients at Johor Bahru’s Sultanah Aminah Hospital who perished in a fire yesterday, 25 October.  The blaze occurred at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where all six casualties were warded.  As a result of the fire, other patients and staff at the hospital were temporarily evacuated from the building.

Nalandians attend Metta Lodge dinner

On Friday 30 September, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch members attended a ‘Gala Dinner’ organised by Metta Lodge to raise funds for its new meditation centre located in Taman Johor Jaya.  The dinner was well supported with devotees from several Buddhist societies in Johor and Singapore.

Fabulous fun fair in Johor Bahru

Excellent weather greeted the crowd at ‘Family Fun Fair’ 2016 organised by Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch.  It was only the second year the ‘Fun Fair’ was held in J.B., yet the event was a resounding success due to the great support from the local community.

‘Family Fun Fair’ in J.B. opens

Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ in Johor Bahru had just opened at 8.00 am this morning with an enthusiastic crowd streaming in.  An hour after opening, more than 1,000 people have visited the Fair, which features 75 stalls selling a variety of food, beverages, household items, fresh vegetables, flowers and fruits.

We’re ready for ‘Family Fun Fair’

Over the last few weeks, Nalanda members and devotees joyfully gathered at NEO Centre Johor Bahru to prepare for the 2016 ‘Family Fun Fair’, which will be held on 11 September.  The organising team had its final meeting last Sunday to ensure the smooth running of the event, which is expected to draw a few thousand people.
