Over the weekend on 8 – 9 August, members from Nalanda branches in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani came to support the recent ‘Family Fun Fair’ – the Society’s fund-raising event in Sri Serdang. It was a wonderful day as all members mingled and worked seamlessly with other Nalandians as we share a common culture of community service.
Read moreOn Friday 12 June, Nalanda Free School organized an outing for primary school students to Zoo Negara (National Zoo) in Kuala Lumpur. 31 students participated in this learning trip, accompanied by 5 teachers and facilitators. This special outing was meant as a ‘reward’ for younger Free School students who had full-attendance since classes began in January.
Read moreOn Saturday 6 June, the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round) Programme was once again held at Sri Petaling and Happy Garden markets. Nalandians, devotees and volunteers gathered at Nalanda Education & Outreach (NEO) Centre Kuala Lumpur at 7.30am to start the day with Pūja and chanting before proceeding to the nearby Sri Petaling market at 8.30am and subsequently, to Happy Garden market at 9.30am.
Read moreThe Wesak International Film Festival (WIFF) 2015 had a colourful opening and first screening on Saturday 20 June, at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MATIC), Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Gracing the occasion were members of the Maha Sangha and leaders of Buddhist organisations. The audience was entertained with wonderful performances by local artistes Yang Wei Han and Xue Bing Jin, and Fo Guang Shan’s 24-season drummers.
Read moreOn Saturday 30 May, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur came together to give NEO Centre in Happy Garden a thorough clean-up. The enthusiastic volunteers also cleared the immediate neighbourhood of rubbish and illegal posters. Everyone who took part in the cleaning were joyful to work together and in the process, had also gotten to know each other better, thus creating a stronger bond among Nalandians.

The devastating quakes killed more than 8,600 people and caused untold damages to the country’s infrastructure. The group also paid visits to the Sam Kow Temple, Madrasatul Gouthiyyah, Tamil Methodist Church, Sri Sakthi Karpaga Vinayagar Temple, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
