Learning verses of the ‘Yamaka Vagga’

On Saturday 10 June, Nalanda Institute hosted the second of three Dhammapada Study Series at Nalanda Centre.  Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy led participants in a reflection of 8 verses from the Yamaka Vagga (The Chapter of Twin Verses), in which each pair consist of verses which are similar in language but bear opposite meanings to provide contrast on the path to be taken and the path to be avoided.

Nalanda leaders set off on learning trip in Thailand

Today, Nalanda leaders comprising the Management and Education teams, have set off on a 4-day learning trip in Thailand led by President Sis. Buddhini Tan.  They have just departed KLIA and are heading to Bangkok where they will travel to several monasteries to visit and pay their respects to venerable monks.  We wish them safe travels and fruitful learning on this wholesome journey.

Free School teachers prepare for new academic year

On Saturday 18 March, Nalanda Free School teachers and volunteers gathered to prepare for the new school year, which starts today.  The School’s Principal Dr. Chwee Fang and Coordinator Sis. Nandini, welcomed all teachers, thanking them for their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of the students, especially those who struggle with their learning.

Centres of higher learning visits Nalanda

On Tuesday 21 February, Nalanda leaders welcomed representatives from 大马佛教大学 Dharma Buddhist University (DBU), Bentong and Sekolah Tinggi Agama Buddha Nalanda, Indonesia to Nalanda Centre for a leadership exchange.  On this maiden visit to Nalanda Centre, the group was brought on a building tour to learn about Buddhist history, culture and values that were embedded in its architecture and design.

‘The power of great compassion’ by Prof. Stephen Jenkins

On Friday 10 February, Nalanda Centre was priviledged to host Professor Stephen Jenkins for a special lecture on “The power of great compassion”.  Prof. Jenkins, Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at Humboldt State University, shared that compassion is a definitive quality of Buddhism and is uniquely paired with wisdom, having studied the topic of compassion for over three decades.

“Lawatan sambil belajar” di Taman Botani Putrajaya

On Sunday 9 October, participants of the Horticulture & Landscaping Course (HCL 001) completed their course with a study trip to the Botanical Garden at Putrajaya.  The educational tour was led by Dr. Chen, lead of the Landscaping Team at Wisdom Park and focused mainly on the trees in the Park’s botanical theme sector of ‘Forest Fringe’.

A new experience for new Buddhists

On 1 to 2 October, 60 participants and volunteers of the recently completed courses – BPS 104 Buddhist Studies in Mandarin and Svagatam Inspiring Programme joined a two-day retreat at Wisdom Park to deepen their Dhamma learning and experience aspects of the Buddhist way of life. We rejoice in the spirit of learning and service of everyone.
