Teaching on meditation by Ayya Santinī

In October 2016, Nalanda Centre was honoured to host a visit by Venerable Ayya Santinī, a senior Theravada bhikkhuni from Indonesia.  Nalandians grabbed the opportunity to invite Ayya Santinī for a Dhamma talk after our weekly Wednesday meditation session.

Amazing meditation retreat for youths

Capping off a fantastic 2016, Nalanda Youth Centre conducted a one-day meditation retreat for 150 young adults on Saturday, 26 November.  The retreat featured insightful Dhamma teachings and practical meditation guidance by Nalanda founder, Bro Tan.

Meditation Retreat on Saturday

Participants of the Dhamma-in-Youth meditation retreat are reminded to arrive at Nalanda Centre for registration between 8.00am and 8.45am this Saturday.  The retreat begins at 9.00am.  This one-day meditation retreat is specially catered for youths aged 16 to 29 to learn how to ‘de-stress’ and attain inner peace despite having packed academic, work and social schedules.  We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

The Buddha’s meditative experience

At the Service Sunday on 9 October, Sis. Tan Yee Yong was invited to deliver a talk on ‘Meditation’.  She recounted history by stating that certain meditation practices already existed before the Buddha’s time.  In fact, the Buddha-to-be Siddhattha Gotama learned from two prominent meditation teachers of His time – Alara Kalama and Uddaka Ramaputta.

Undergraduates attend meditation retreat

On Sunday 9 October, thirty undergraduates from Universiti Putra Malaysia attended a one-day meditation retreat at Nalanda Centre organized by the university’s Buddhist Society.  The retreat held from 10am to 10pm was led by Venerable Bhikshuni Ji-Chi and Venerable Bhikshuni Chi-Xiang.

Brightest moon and highest delight

Scientists at NASA say that people across the world tonight will get to witness the ‘brightest’ full-moon since 1948.  This ‘supermoon’ happens at its ‘perigee’ phase, where the orbiting moon is closest to Earth, and a good 14% closer than its ‘apogee’ phase where it orbits farthest away from us.
