Welcome ‘Home’ for 3rd National Convention

Nalanda Buddhist Society will celebrate our 12th Anniversary of establishment on 1 May 2015.  We joyfully look forward to welcoming all Nalandians back to our ‘spiritual home’ in Sri Serdang for the 3rd National Members’ Convention from this Friday, 1 May to Sunday, 3 May.  This year’s Convention coincides with Wesak ‘Buddha Day’ Observance, which adds to the auspiciousness of the meeting.

YBAM Community Service Plenary Meeting

Over the weekend on 11 and 12 April, Nalanda Youth Centre was honoured to host the plenary meeting for members of the National Buddhist Undergraduate Community Service Programme, which is under the direction of the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia (YBAM).

3rd National Members’ Convention

Nalanda Buddhist Society members nationwide are invited to participate in the 3rd National Members’ Convention to be held over three days – from 1 to 3 May 2015.  There will be talks by leaders and Dhamma teachings aplenty since the Convention falls on Wesak ‘Buddha Day’.

Moving ahead with Dedicated Leadership

It has been a month since Nalanda Buddhist Society elected a new Board of Management on 8 March 2015.  The new leadership has shown much enthusiasm and dedication in steering the Society forward with new initiatives and training programmes for members in the pipeline.

Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch Members’ Day

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch held our monthly Members’ Day at the usual meeting place – Gurun Buddhist Association.  Members who attended the gathering were glad to have Bro. Tan’s presence during the meeting.  Branch Committee Member Dr. Aw shared his reflections on the “Mūlapariyāya Sutta” with the gathering.  After which, Dr. Song led an interactive discussion session on the topics from Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro’s book – “Without and Within”.

UPM Buddhist Alumni AGM held at Nalanda

On Sunday 15 March, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Buddhist Society Alumni (PBUPM-A) held their 9th Annual General Meeting at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  The Management Committee duly presented the annual activities report at the meeting for members’ approval.  The Alumni has been active in keeping contact with UPM Buddhist graduates and inspiring them to further their Dhamma practice.  Nalanda wishes PBUPM-A continued progress and success in the coming years.  Sadhu anumodana!

Ven. Sanghasena visits Nalanda Centre

On Friday 13 March, Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang was honoured by the visit of Venerable Sanghasena Nāyaka Thero from Ladakh, India.  The Director of Nalanda Centre, Sis. Nandinī Tan, and Head of Department for Buddhist & Pāli Studies, Sis. Sandy Lim, hosted Ven. Sanghasena and two accompanying Ladakhi students on a tour of Nalanda Cente.

New Board of Management Elected at A.G.M.

At Nalanda Buddhist Society’s 12th Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) held on 8 March 2015, Nalanda members elected a new Board of Management to lead and oversee the Society’s continued growth and development.  Heading the Board of Management is Sis. Evelyn Chow, who was elected Nalanda’s fourth leader and first female President.  Bro. Charlie Teng was elected the Deputy President, while Bro. Pee Che Yong is the new Honorary Secretary.  Sis. Margaret Ng was appointed the Honorary Treasurer.

Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch 2nd A.G.M.

On Sunday 1 March, Nalanda Buddhist Society Johor Bahru Branch had a fruitful 2nd Annual General Meeting.  The meeting was also attended by Nalanda’s Honorary Secretary Sis. Buddhini Tan and Assistant Secretary Sis. Mudita Chan, representing the National Board of Management.
