Buddhist organisations can do more

On Sunday, Bro. Tan addressed the issue of false Buddhist teachings that are prevalent in a large portion of the community.  Some preachers are using Buddhist concepts such as ‘kamma’ and ‘rebirth’ to dupe gullible devotees into parting with their money and sponsoring unnecessary and ineffectual rituals.  The performance of such rituals is not in accordance to the letter and spirit of Buddhism.

Celebrating the 53rd ‘Malaysia Day’

Back in 1963, the peoples of Malaya and the former British colonies of North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore decided to form a federation of 14 states and territories under a federal government based in Kuala Lumpur.  Thus on 16 September that year, a country named ‘Malaysia’ was born of that aspiration.  In August 1965, Singapore left the federation to become an independent republic.  The other 13 states have continued to persevere as a nation until today.

Today, Malaysians celebrate the 59th anniversary of our nation’s independence.  We are grateful for the relative peace and stability that our nation has enjoyed over the decades.  We are also thankful for the invaluable services rendered by honourable civil servants and principled civic leaders to the development of Malaysia.  We owe those unsung heroes a debt of gratitude in ensuring our country’s progress despite facing severe challenges in nation-building.

Real ‘winner’ at the Olympics

After two weeks of competition, the first Olympic Games to be held in South America will draw to a close later today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The Malaysian team had their best ever performance at an Olympics by winning 4 silver medals and one bronze medal.

54 year old cancer survivor wins Olympic gold

At 54, he has overcome cancer and the loss of half a lung — now Santiago Lange is proving once again that nothing can stop him after winning Olympic gold at Rio 2016.  The Argentine, along with sailing partner Cecilia Carranza Saroli, took top spot in the Nacra 17 Mixed Multihull after a dramatic final medal race on Tuesday.

Happy National Day, Singapore

Today marks the Republic of Singapore’s 51st anniversary of independence.  Due to our long, common history, Malaysia and Singapore share so many peculiar attributes.  Our two countries’ past had been uniquely intertwined; and so is our future.  A thriving and prosperous Singapore is good for Malaysia, and vice versa.
