Passing of Ven. Master Hsing Yun

It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that we observe the passing of Most Venerable Master Hsing Yun on Sunday 5 February 2023, at the age of 96. Born in Jiangsu Province, China, he received full ordination at the age of 15 and dedicated his life to propagate the Dhamma as a global citizen.

Ajahn Chah Memorial Day

16 January 2023 marks the 31st anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing. One of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era, many monastics who trained with him at forest monasteries have themselves become renowned and respected teachers.  Three decades on, his unique ways of teaching still resonate among us today. Let us pay humble tribute to this great monk by taking time to reflect on his teachings and practising them faithfully.

On the first day of the year, Nalandians warmly welcomed Venerable Ajahn Vajiro to Wisdom Park, his first visit to the educational campus.   Nalanda Youth leaders and members took the opportunity to seek his advice as part of their annual Fuel-up Camp to prepare themselves for the year ahead.

A wholesome welcome to the new year

On Saturday 31 December, Nalanda members and devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to usher in the new year with good friends.   In the last hours of the year 2022, the congregation chanted and sat in peaceful meditation to radiate loving-kindness to the whole world as we ‘calmed down’ to conclude 2022 meaningfully and welcome 2023 wholesomely.

Ajahn Kusalo visits Nalanda

On Saturday 17 December,  Nalanda Centre was honoured to host Venerable Ajahn Kusalo for a Dhamma talk.  Ajahn expounded on the pursuit of happiness, a common goal for most people.  In this developing world, it is easy to fulfill our pleasures and desires but we often find that we only experience a fleeting happiness.

Third Memorial of Venerable Dhammavuddho

22 December 2022 marks the 3rd anniversary of the passing of Venerable Dhammavuddho Mahāthero, a Malaysian monk of Chinese descent who dedicated his life to Dhamma.  The late Ven. Dhammavuddho founded Vihara Buddha Gotama, a forest monastery in Perak that serves as a training facility for monks and those aspiring to be monks, as well as for the laity to study and practise Dhamma.

On Saturday 26 November, over 100 members of the Mahā Sangha and Buddhist leaders gathered at Wisdom Park in a joyful reunion of kalyana mittas. The group received updates on the progress of this educational facility dedicated to the Buddha Sasana and rejoiced in the Dhamma programmes held there to-date.

Fondly known to many as ‘Bhante G’, Ven. Gunaratana is a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher and author who dedicated his life to Dhamma propagation around the world.
