Ajahn Achalo visits Wisdom Park

Nalanda is honoured to host Ven. Ajahn Achalo, Abbot of Anandagiri Forest Monastery, at Nalanda Centre and Wisdom Park. Ajahn and his retinue made a maiden visit to Wisdom Park yesterday evening.  He was delighted by the simple and functional facility built that draws parallels to the forest monastery he has set up in Petchabun, Thailand.

Hosting 12 Sri Lankan scholar monks

On Sunday 7 May, Nalanda members and volunteers were honoured to welcome 12 monks from Sri Lanka, who are on a study tour courtesy hosted by Maha Karuna Buddhist Society.  The young members of the Sangha are top scholars in Buddhist and Pali studies and are visiting Malaysia for the first time.

Dhamma talk by Ajahn Achalo

Nalanda Centre is honoured to host Ven. Ajahn Achalo, Abbot of Anandagiri Forest Monastery in Petchabun Thailand, for a Dhamma talk this Saturday 13 May at 8pm.  Born in Brisbane Australia. he developed a keen interest in meditation at the age of twenty and a year later left for Thailand to study Buddhism.  After two years of practising in various centres and monasteries, Ajahn Achalo ordained in 1996 at Wat Nong Pah Pong.  All are welcome!

Community comes together at NEO KL

This morning, the community at the OUG and Happy Garden markets came together to make offerings to Mahā Sangha.  Whilst many regular supporters joyfully prepared and made offerings to venerable monks, curious onlookers also joined in after understanding the purpose of the deed and this simple way to support members of the Sangha.

Arrival of venerable monks at Nalanda Centre

Just an hour ago, Nalanda members and volunteers joyfully welcomed Ven. Dr. K. Gnanawimala Thera and Ven. D. Rahula Thera to Nalanda Centre.  Venerable monks have travelled from Sri Lanka to lend their presence to the Malaysian Buddhist community during this holy Vesakha month, and we are grateful that they are here at Nalanda for the Buddha Day Observance.

He bestowed upon us the name ‘Nalanda’

Two decades ago, our late Spiritual Adviser, Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda Nāyaka Thero (1918 – 2006) bestowed upon us the name “Nalanda” meaning ‘the giving of knowledge and wisdom’.  It imbued upon our founding members a sense of purpose and mission to live up to the educational legacy of the ancient Nālandā Māha Vihāra in India.

Dhamma talk by Ven. Ajahn Kalyano

On Sunday 2 April, we were honoured to host Venerable Tahn Ajahn Kalyano for a Dhamma talk, his first visit back to Nalanda Centre since the onset of the pandemic.  Tahn Ajahn advised us to bring the quality of mindfulness into our lives as often as possible, in order to cultivate inner awareness and strength of mind.

Blessed weekend of hosting monks at Nalanda Centre

Just last weekend, Nalanda Centre was abuzz with activities to host members of the monastic Sangha from across Malaysia.  Members and volunteers gathered joyously to welcome, serve and learn from the monks, one of the highest blessings as expounded by the Buddha – Samanānañ ca dassanam translated as ‘sight of the holy men’.

Spiritual gathering on Māgha Pūja with Ven. Pemaratana

On Monday 6 March, Nalanda members and volunteers warmly welcomed Ven. Dr. S. Pemaratana, Abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Centre, on his first trip back to Malaysia since the pandemic.  The visit started with a tour around the Wisdom Park campus and an introduction to this educational facility dedicated to train Buddhist leaders and develop Dhamma teachers.
