Monks show the proper way

On Saturday 18 June, the people of Seri Kembangan were again fortunate to have the opportunity of offering alms-food to monks on ‘Pindacāra’.  The monthly alms-round programme was started three years ago at the Jalan Besar market here to educate the local community on the right way to support Buddhist Sangha (monastic order).

Thai forest monks visit Nalanda

On Saturday 2 July, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the presence of Luang Por Sophon, the Abbot of Wat Bueng Latthiwan, which is a branch monastery of Wat Nong Pah Pong in the Ajahn Chah Thai forest tradition.  As a boon, Luang Por Sophon was accompanied by Luang Por Nusin Santajitto (Abbot of Wat Katthaliwan), Luang Por Siri, Ajahn Thinakorn, Ajahn Pramual, Phra Jirapat and Phra Somchay.  The monastic entourage was on a 2-week visit through Malaysia.

Dhamma talk by Ajahn Vajiro

On Saturday 25 June, Nalandians were honoured to have Venerable Ajahn Vajiro leading our weekly meditation session and delivering a Dhamma talk.  Ajahn reminded us to live a life of wisdom by ‘knowing’ and ‘upholding’ the truth.  He also urged Dhamma practitioners to constantly develop happiness independent of conditions by cultivating a sense of contentment.

Ven. Dhammavuddho’s talk at Nalanda

On Sunday 19 June, Nalanda was honoured by the presence of Venerable Dhammavuddho Māhathera, founder and abbot of Vihāra Buddha Gotama in Temoh, Perak, to give a talk on the ‘Qualities of a Wise man’. His talk coincided with the third week of Nalanda’s Gimhāna Retreat, and thus it was an inspiring sight to see the Dhamma Hall packed with devotees who came to listen to the venerable in person.

Passing of Ven. Polpitiya Kassapa

We are saddened to announce the passing away of Venerable Polpitiya Kassapa Nāyaka Thero, meditation teacher and founder of Rockhill Hermitage, Sri Lanka, on Monday, 18 July 2016.  He was a disciple of the Most Venerable Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Māha Nāyaka Thera, one of the most renowned Theravada monks of the 20th century.

2nd Samaneri Novitiate Programme

On Thursday 7 July, Nalanda founder Bro. Tan and Sis. Nandinī paid respects at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul where the 2nd Theravāda Samaneri Novitiate Programme was being held.  More than 30 ladies ordained temporarily in order to experience the joys of monastic life.

Scholar monks at Nalanda Centre

On Thursday 26 May, a group of 13 young monks from Sri Lanka visited Nalanda Centre to learn about Buddhist educational work in Malaysia.  These monks were among the best scholars in Pāli, Sanskrit and Sinhalese languages, having excelled in Sri Lankan national ‘Pirivena’ examinations and obtained the first places in those subjects.  They were accorded a special visit to Malaysia courtesy of Venerable Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero of Sentul Temple.

Sayadaw Nandasiddhi visits Nalanda

In late May, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the visit by most Venerable Sayadaw U Nandasiddhi – a well-known meditation teacher and abbot of Nirodhārama Meditation Centre in Ayer Tawar, Perak.  Sayadawgyi was a disciple of the late Sayadaw U Panditābhivamsa, who passed away just a few months ago.
