Ven. Sayadaw U Osadha visits Nalanda

On Friday 12 June, Nalanda Centre was honoured by a visit by Venerable Sayadaw U Osadha from California, U.S.A.  Sayadaw Osadha was accompanied by the President of Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation Society Bro. Lim Boon Hang and several other devotees.  On hand to welcome the venerable were Founder Bro. Tan, Director of Nalanda Centre Sis. Nandini, and other officers.

Pindacāra at Seri Kembangan Market

On Saturday 16 May, the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round) Programme at Seri Kembangan market was eagerly participated by devotees.  Members of the public were waiting patiently along the ‘Pindacāra’ route to offer food to Sangha members.  Our friendly ‘People Engagement’ team was also on hand to explain to the public at nearby eateries the meaning and significance of ‘Pindacāra’. Ven. Siridhamma visits Nalanda Dharma School

On Sunday 17 May, Nalanda Dharma School (NDS) was honoured by the visit of Venerable K. Siridhamma Thero, the Principal of Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School (BISDS), Buddhist Māha Vihāra.  Ven. Siridhamma was warmly received by the Director of Nalanda Dharma School Sis. Sunanda Ong and School officers.

Officiating Nalanda Centre’s Annex Building

On Friday 1 May, which was Nalanda Buddhist Society’s 12th anniversary, Nalanda Centre was filled with joy as 1,000 Nalandians and guests came to take part in the ‘Officiating Ceremony of Nalanda Centre Annex Building’.  We were honoured to have Ven. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero, Abbot of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul, Ven. Nyanaramsi Thero, Abbot of Subang Jaya Buddhist Vihara, and venerable members of the Maha Sangha to offer blessings at the ceremony. Read more

Visitors to Nalanda Photography Exhibition

In the past few days, the “Passage through India” special photography exhibition which is on-going at Nalanda Centre continues to draw groups of visitors.  On 11 May, Ven. Sing Kan, the Abbess of Sam Poh Tong Temple in Ampang, came visiting with Ven. Pu Yi from Japan, as well as her two devotees.

Inspiring Dhamma Talk by Ven. D. Upananda

On Tuesday 21 April, devotees had an inspiring evening listening to Venerable D. Upananda Nāyaka Thero’s Dhamma Talk at Nalanda Centre.  Ven. Upananda shared with us the five types of ‘Māra’ that we should be aware of, namely  – (1) ‘Devaputta’ – is not only a very powerful deity but is also bent on making life difficult for holy persons; (2) ‘Kilesa’ – the demons of defilement: greed, aversion and delusion; (3) ‘Abhisamkhara’ – karmic activities which are more subtle; (4) ‘Khandha’ – arising from the Five Aggregates; and (5) ‘Maccu’ – death.

Joyfully cultivating Generosity

On Saturday 18 April, the ‘Pindacāra’ (monks going on alms-round) at Seri Kembangan market was joyfully held as the public offered food to the venerable monks with devotion.  After the alms-round, the three venerable monks from Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple performed blessings for devotees to conclude the morning programme.

Being ‘Good Practitioners’ of Dhamma

On Thursday 2 April, Nalanda welcomed Ven. Dr. T. Sangharatana Nāyaka Thero to talk on how to be ‘Good Practitioners’.  Ven. Sangharatana said that the teaching of all Buddhas is to ‘avoid doing evil actions, to cultivate wholesome deeds and to develop mental abilities’.  Buddhists are reminded to be mindful of our actions – whether physical, verbal or mental – at all times.

Dāna at proposed NEO Centre Sungai Petani

On Saturday 28 March, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch invited Venerable Thipako and Venerable Chye from Sammāditthi Meditation Grove for lunch dāna at the proposed Nalanda Outreach & Education (NEO) Centre, located in Bandar Mutiara, Sungai Petani.  The dāna was specially arranged to mark the beginning of construction work of the new centre, and to invoke the blessings of the ‘Three Jewels’ for the successful completion of the project.
