Educational Pindacāra

‘Pindacāra’ is the practice of Theravada monks going on alms-round to collect their daily meal.  ‘Pindacāra’ is a compound Pāli word.  ‘Pinda’ means lumps of food (contained in a monk’s alms-bowl).  ‘Cāra’ means to walk about for the purpose of collecting alms-food.  Hence, ‘Pindacāra’ means to collect food by going on alms-round.

Ven. Ayya Santinī visits Nalanda

On Sunday 1 June, Nalandians warmly welcomed Ven. Ayya Santinī from Indonesia who arrived for a three-day visit to Nalanda.  Ayya Santinī and 5 accompanying Indonesian devotees were met at the KL International Airport by Founder Bro. Tan, Sis. Buddhinī, Nandinī, Santī, and Bro Gan.

Nalanda Centre hosted Ven. Alokavamsa

Last Monday 26 May, Nalandians had the privilege of offering dāna to Ven. Alokavamsa Bhikkhu from Indonesia.  Ven. Alokavamsa was on his way to Pa-Auk Meditation Centre in Myanmar, and transited for a night at Nalanda Centre.  We wish venerable the best of health and much spiritual progress.  We also thank all devotees for your kindness and hospitality to Ven. Alokavamsa. Sadhu anumodana.

Dhamma talk by Ven. Ayya Santinī

Tonight we are honoured to host Ven. Ayya Santinī for a Dhamma Talk at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.   Ayya Santinī is the abbess of a nunnery in Maribaya, Indonesia, and a well-known Dhammaduta in that country.  We welcome everyone to Nalanda Centre at 8.00pm tonight for an evening of inspiring Dhamma learning!

Visit by Ven. Chang Zao of Dharma Drum Mountain

The Superintendent of Dharma Drum Mountain Malaysia (法鼓山馬來西亞) Venerable Chang Zao (常藻法师) came for a courtesy visit to Nalanda Centre this afternoon, accompanied by two volunteer officers.  They were warmly received by Sis. Nandini Tan and Bro. Charlie Teng, together with several other Nalandians.

Nalanda hosting Sangha Members this week

Ven. Ariyadhammika from Austria and Ven. U Sumana from Myanmar arrived at Nalanda Centre last night, having traveled from Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Taiping.  They were warmly received by Nalanda officers and devotees.

Wesak New-moon Uposatha today

Today is the New-moon Uposatha Day, and the start of the month of Wesak (Pāli, ‘Vesakha’).  In another two weeks, Buddhists in Malaysia will celebrate the Wesak Full-moon ‘Buddha Day’.

Nalanda Johor Bahru hosted Ven. Kumāra

Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch recently hosted Ven. Kumāra Bhikkhu from Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary Taiping, from 7 to 10 April.  On Tuesday 8 April, Ven. Kumāra gave a Mandarin Dhamma talk at NEO Centre JB, with the title ‘如何面对负性思维和感受’ (“How to overcome negative thoughts and emotions” ).  The talk was most relevant as nowadays people are stretched and stressed beyond limit by many commitments and engagements.  The Shrine Hall was packed with devotees eager to enhance their well-being.

Visit by Ven. Kaixin and devotees

An old friend of Nalandians, Ven. Kaixin from Er Di Buddhist Centre, came to Nalanda on Wednesday 2 April for a visit.  Ven. Kaixin accompanied by 3 devotees met up with Bro. Tan for a lengthy talk on various issues ranging from Dhamma propagation, education, Buddhist traditions, and designing Buddhist centres.

Group Visits by Sangha Members

On Saturday 1 March, Nalandians welcomed Āyasmā U Ottamasara together with twenty monastic and lay devotees to Nalanda Centre.  Āyasmā U Ottamasara, the abbot of Thabarwa Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar, was impressed with the aesthetic design and peaceful ambience of Nalanda Centre.  He was also happy with Nalanda’s impactful educational programmes.
