Nalanda Youth Centre Service Sunday

Buddhist youths full of zest and ready to learn! On 22 September, Nalanda Youth Centre (NYC) had another session of 'Youth Service Sunday'. Held weekly from 9am – 12pm on Sundays, these sessions are specially tailored for the learning and development of Buddhist youths aged 18 – 25, and a natural continuation from Nalanda Dharma School.

A programme well-accomplished

The long-awaited Buddhist Youth Leaders’ Study Tour to Bujang Valley from 14 – 16 September was joyfully accomplished!  We arrived at Nalanda Centre at 1.30am this morning (17 September) feeling inspired and greatly satisfied.  Nalanda Youth Centre would like to thank Bro. Tan for expertly guiding all of us on this amazing journey of discovery!  We would also like to thank the Nalanda Central Management in Sri Serdang, and our Sungai Petani branch Chairman Bro. Khaw Seng Giap for your great support and contributions.

Enlightening Tour to Bujang Valley

90 youths and devotees had an enlightening tour to Bujang Valley on 15 September 2013, under the guidance of Bro. H S Tan.  Our one-day trip covered several archaeologically important sites such as Sungai Batu, Merbok, and Semeling, located in Kuala Muda district of Kedah.

New Batch of National Service Trainees

1 September 2013 saw the commencement of Service Sunday organised by Nalanda Youth Centre for the third batch of National Service (NS) trainees this year.  The 64 trainees, which are from the Semenyih NS Camp, will be hosted at Nalanda Centre every Sunday in September and October 2013, from 2pm to 5pm.

Nalanda Youths receive their ‘Flags’

Nalanda Youth Centre officers - Sis. Sumana, Sis. Celestine, and Bro. Lee Kern - received the Buddhist and Nalanda Flags from Dharma School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong on 13 September, as they shall assume the responsibility of leading the youth team on a study tour to Kedah from 14-16 September. The youths will have 3 enriching days full of site-visits and learning activities together with Founder Bro. H S Tan.

Kelantanese Visitors at Nalanda Centre

On Saturday, 31 August, Nalanda received a visit from the Persatuan Buddha Wakaf Bharu Dhamma Class.  The 47 Kelantanese Dhamma Class teachers and students were on an excursion to gain a better understanding and more exposure to the wider Buddhist community in Kuala Lumpur.

The Young Buddhist Quiz 2013

On Saturday, 31 August, nine teams of teenagers aged 13 to 16 from five Dhamma schools came together to participate in a friendly competition – the “Young Buddhist Quiz” at Nalanda Centre. The 36 students were representing Bandar Utama Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School, BMSM Samadhi Vihara, Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School, Nalanda Dharma School, and Shah Alam Buddhist Society Sunday Dhamma School.

Youth Groups visit Nalanda Centre

This week, Nalanda Centre continues to receive visitors from near and far.  On Wednesday 10 July, students from Multimedia University (MMU) Buddhist Group joined our meditation and Dhamma talk session.  On Sunday 14 July, Bro. How Chee Seng from Suttarama Kuala Terengganu came visiting.  The President and Dhamma Propagation Director of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore also made a 2-day visit starting Sunday.

Enriching visit to Singapore for the 8th Global Conference on Buddhism

The 8th Global Conference on Buddhism, with the theme "In the World of Rapid Change", was held at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See (KMSPKS) in Singapore from 6 - 7 July 2013.  1,300 participants took part in the largest gathering of its kind this year.  The Conference was organised by the Buddhist Fellowship and Buddhist Congress of Singapore, and supported by 5 other local organisations.

Career Exploration Seminar

On 22 June, a Career Exploration Seminar was held at Nalanda Centre and was mostly attended by teenagers aged 16 to 18.  Counsellor Bro. Aggaphala Yap Hock Heng guided participants in exploring their personal interests and priorities, leading them on a journey of self-discovery. It was a thought-provoking and highly interactive session as the youngsters took the opportunity to clarify and find out more about how they can translate what they like to do into potential future career options!
