On Sunday 21 September, Nalanda Buddhist Society members from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur Branch gathered for a ‘family’ reunion at our ‘spiritual home’ – Nalanda Centre – for another Members’ Day. The gathering started with a piece of good news – our youths’ effort in producing a video titled ‘Hope’ for Siddharthan Care Centre won the best short film category in a recent competition. The inspiring video was shown to Nalandians, and everyone rejoiced at the achievement of Bro. Andrew Tan, Bro. Gan Jia Cheng and Sis. Tan Ee Yean. Read more
On 16 September “Malaysia Day”, Nalandians took advantage of the public holiday to have another round of cleaning and gardening at Nalanda House. Their most impressive effort was in building a planter box in front of Nalanda House, using bricks recycled from the ongoing Nalanda Building Expansion Project. The three-tiered planter box is 12 feet long by 5 feet wide, with nine compartments for different types of plants. It was a brainchild of Nalanda’s ‘gardener-in-chief’, Bro. Vincent Lee.
Read moreOn Sunday 14 September, devotees gathered in strength at Nalanda Centre for our annual ‘Community Gardening Day’. Every year close to ‘Malaysia Day’, Nalandians and the surrounding community would work together to clean and green the Sri Serdang neighbourhood. This is one of our efforts to commemorate the country’s founding day – by taking care of cleanliness in our vicinity, and to plant suitable local trees and shrubs to create a better environment for everyone.
Read moreNalanda’s Chinese-Language Communications Team marked their six months on the job this week. Back in March, the team launched a Mandarin Facebook page to reach out to more people. The posts published there comprise original designs, new articles by teachers, and interviews with volunteers. So far the page has received very encouraging support due to the quality of its contents.

Read moreThe Nalanda ‘Family Fun Fair’ kicked off right on time at 9am on the morning of 24 August! The field at Taman Sri Serdang in front of Nalanda Centre was a hub of activities with more than 1,000 lunch-time crowd sampling a huge variety of delicacies on offer. The 160 stalls were doing brisk ‘business’ as many items on sale were quickly snapped up. Despite its large scale, the atmosphere in the field felt like that of a friendly village market!
