An uplifting Nalanda Members’ Day

Nalanda Buddhist Society members congregated at our ‘spiritual home’ – Nalanda Centre – on Saturday 26 October for another reunion-like Members’ Day gathering.  This round, new members from Nalanda Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru branches also joined the assembly for the first time.  They received a warm and encouraging welcome from other Nalandians.

Nalanda JB Officers’ Plenary Session

It was a busy but productive Sunday for officers at NEO Centre Johor Bahru on 29 September.  After the morning service and Mandarin Talk by Bro. Tan, officers and volunteers tucked in for a pot-luck lunch.  In the afternoon, 20 Nalanda Johor Bahru officers joined Bro. Tan for a special meeting to plan programmes for the last quarter (October-December) of 2013, as well as to chart directions for 2014-2015.  With clarity of vision and purpose, the JB Branch Management would be able to lead the community progressively onward.

Nalanda Officers visit Kedah

Several senior Nalanda officers led by Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, arrived at Sungai Petani on 14 September for a brief visit to familiarize themselves with Kedahan Buddhist communities.  Besides Bro. Lee, the other officers include Honorary Treasurer Sis. May Wong, Assistant Secretary Sis. Mudita Chan, Manager Sis. Joyce Lim, KL Branch Pro-tem Chairman Bro. Eugene Yong, and KL Branch Assistant Secretary Sis. Ng Tung Yan.

Festive Mid-Autumn fellowship gathering

On Saturday, 7 September, Nalanda Dharma School students, parents and devotees gathered at the NEO Centre in Happy Garden, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival in a meaningful way.  Opening the session with puja and chanting, it was followed by a Dhamma sharing by Sis. Faith Teh.

Back from camp with joy and inspiration

"Truly inspiring!"  That was the most oft-repeated comment by many participants at the Dhamma-Living Camp. After 4 days of joyous communal living, the 120 participants returned from Genting Highlands with renewed source of energy and a heightened sense of urgency to 'live in accordance to Dhamma'.

Aspiring Speakers graduate from Training Course

A new batch of graduates join the ranks of ‘Aspiring Dhamma Speakers’ after their graduation today from the 4th “Dhamma Speakers’ Training Programme” (DSTP), organised by the Buddhist Gem Fellowship (BGF), and coordinated by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar.  The graduation ceremony for 14 aspiring speakers was held at the BGF Centre in Petaling Jaya.  Among the graduates were Nalanda’s Meditation Manager Sis. Sandra Yang and Communications Manager Sis. Faith Teh.

Nalanda Branch Officers’ Meeting

The first Nalanda Branch officers’ meeting was briefly held on Saturday, 13 July at Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang.  15 Nalanda officers from 3 branches – Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Petani – met with Nalanda President Bro. Lee Kong Foo, Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, Secretary Sis. Buddhinī Tan, Treasurer Sis. May Wong, and (Acting) Branch Development Director Bro. Charlie Teng.

The first Nalanda Officers’ Workshop (N.O.W.) for 2013 was held on Saturday, 13 July at our spiritual home - Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. 64 Nalanda officers from 5 divisions and 4 branches (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Kedah) took part in this workshop.

Newsletter for Nalanda Officers launched

The Nalanda Secretariat today published the first issue of a newsletter specially catering for the needs of Nalanda's 70 office-bearers and officers.  'Nalandian', the newsletter, carries such contents as Founder Bro.Tan's message, directives from the leadership, news about policies, practices and culture.  This newsletter aims to provide officers with general guidelines, management policies, and to share crucial information.  Nalandian officers are encouraged to make full use of this additional facility to plan better programmes and events for the community.
