JB Branch members start chanting course

On Saturday 20 January, members and devotees from Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch commenced their chanting course guided by the Society’s Board of Management members Bro. Charlie Teng and Sis. Santī Cheang.  In this first of four sessions, the group were introduced to the meaning and significance of chanting, followed with guidance on the proper chanting in Pāli.

Night of Togetherness in Dhamma

The highlight of today’s Buddha Day celebration is the “Night of Togetherness” at 8.30pm this evening. The programme features a special message and teaching by Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro, blessings by Venerable Sri Saranankara, and a Dhamma Talk by Nalanda founder, Bro Tan.

Bearing gratitude on Memorial day

31 August 2019 marked the 13th Anniversary of the late Ven. Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda’s passing.  Nalanda members and devotees honoured our late Spiritual Adviser with a commemoration ceremony in the morning.  After the meditation, puja and chanting, Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama delivered a Dhamma talk on the benefits of gratitude and appreciation.

In Memoriam – A decade in passing

On the fateful day of 25 August 2009, while travelling on a charity tour to help build schools and welfare homes in Ladakh, four of our dear Dhamma friends – G. G. Tan, Julie Ang, Jennie Cheong, and Lee Ah Yem – met with a tragic road accident that caused them their lives. Today marks the 10th anniversary of their passing, and a group of Nalandians led by Nalanda founder Bro. Tan is now in Ladakh to pay special tribute for their services rendered to the Buddha-Sāsana.

Paruadi Ramasamy gave a talk on how to develop a respectful attitude.  Respect is positively correlated to humility, contentment and gratitude.  When developed with right understanding, these four qualities help us achieve harmony and tranquility within ourselves and the wider community.

New Year’s Eve blessing ceremony

Daily Dhamma reminders during Gimhāna

Celebrating the eve of ‘Buddha Day’

Today is the eve of Wesak full-moon ‘Buddha Day’.  A very significant spiritual moment happened in the life of the Buddha this day before His Enlightenment.  He received food offering from Lady Sujata and with strength regained, He sat meditating under the pipal tree throughout the night, and achieved Awakening the next dawn!
