The happiness of giving alms

It was another much anticipated third Saturday of the month, when Nalanda’s educational ‘Pindacara’ programme took place in Seri Kembangan on 19 November.  As usual, throngs of devotees had prepared food to be offered to Sangha members on their alms-round at Jalan Besar market.

Pindacāra at Seri Kembangan market

15 October was another joyful weekend for devotees in Seri Kembangan as the third Saturday of every month is Nalanda’s educational Pindacāra programme held at the market.  This time, we were truly honoured to have the Abbot of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Kuala Lumpur, Venerable Sri Saranankara Nāyaka Thero, to conduct the alms-round.

On Saturday 20 August, two venerable monks from Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple were invited to go on alms-round at Jalan Besar market in Seri Kembangan.  Many volunteers, including Dhamma School students and Nalandian youths, participated in this monthly educational programme.

Pindacāra at Taman O.U.G.

On Saturday 6 August, the Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch organised the monthly educational ‘Pindacāra’ (monks on alms-round) at the Taman O.U.G. and Happy Garden morning markets. Two venerable monks from Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple went on alms-round, allowing market-goers the opportunity to performing the meritorious act of offering food.

Monks show the proper way

On Saturday 18 June, the people of Seri Kembangan were again fortunate to have the opportunity of offering alms-food to monks on ‘Pindacāra’.  The monthly alms-round programme was started three years ago at the Jalan Besar market here to educate the local community on the right way to support Buddhist Sangha (monastic order).

Monthly Pindacāra well-received at OUG

On 7 May, Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch organised the monthly Pindacāra education programme at Taman OUG and Happy Garden.  Nalanda’s people-engagement team went around the market areas to create awareness among stall-holders and members of the public on the significance of the practice.

Monks on alms-round in Serdang

On Saturday 16 April, two venerable monks from Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple went on ‘Pindacāra’ (alms-round) at Seri Kembangan market.  Nalandians had arrived there earlier to prepare the venue for the monthly educational programme, and took the opportunity to greet our trader friends and devotees in the vicinity.

Pindacāra in O.U.G. and Happy Garden

On Saturday 2 April, two venerable monks went on Pindacāra (alms-round) at Overseas Union Garden (O.U.G.) and Happy Garden morning markets.  It was the first time in many months that the Pindacāra programme was held at O.U.G. and the response there was very heartening.
