As the world grapples with a global pandemic, let us also not forget the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Eastern Japan 10 years ago today, on 11 March 2011. Final salute to Captain Sir Tom Moore

On 16 April 2020, Captain Sir Tom Moore completed his 100th lap around his garden in Bedfordshire; he had intended to raise £1,000 before his 100th birthday to support the National Health Service in the United Kingdom when the Covid-19 pandemic first ravaged the nation.  Little did he know that his honourable goal would soon win the nation’s heart and raise more than £30 million by the time he celebrated his 100th birthday on 30 April.

Sriwijaya Air SJ182 missing

Sriwijaya Air flight SJ182, which was enroute from Jakarta to Pontianak, is reported to have gone missing yesterday (9 January) afternoon.  The passenger plane carrying 62 passengers and crew is suspected to have crashed into the Java sea shortly after taking off from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 2.36pm.

6th Anniversary of MH17 tragedy

Today marks the 6th anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.  Three hours after taking off from Schipol Airport, the Boeing 777 was shot down over Eastern Ukraine and all 298 lives on board were lost.

Tragic air-crash in Pakistan

A tragic air-crash took place earlier this afternoon in the suburbs of Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan.  An Airbus-320 belonging to Pakistan International Airlines was flying from Lahore to Karachi when it crashed while attempting to land.  The carrier reported that flight PK8303 was carrying 91 passengers and 8 crew members.  Miraculously, two of the passengers survived, but at least 97 other people have been confirmed killed.

Prayers for victims of Cyclone Amphan

On Wednesday 20 May, the coastal districts of West Bengal and Bangladesh suffered the wrath of ‘Cyclone Amphan’ which left a trail of destruction with thousands of people homeless.  The death toll, which currently stands at 84, has been rising as search and rescue missions continue to be carried out amidst the devastation.  Powerful winds and torrential rains which hit the Bay of Bengal had caused extensive damage to electricity supply, infrastructure and homes.

6th Anniversary of MH370

Today marks the 6th year of MH 370’s disappearance, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.  Family and friends of those lost are still in anguish over not knowing the actual fate of their loved ones.

First major air tragedy in 2020

We are saddened to hear the news of a major air-tragedy early this morning when a Boeing 737 aeroplane belonging to Ukraine International Airlines crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran.  Officials confirmed that there were no survivors among the 176 passengers and crew on board.

Dark day for humanity

Earlier today, several blasts in churches and hotels were reported in Sri Lanka, killing at least 290 people and injuring hundreds more.  It was a dastardly act of violence on a peaceful Sunday morning, especially when Christians were going for Easter prayers.

Another ‘dark day’ for humanity

This afternoon, a lone gunman stormed into two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and opened fire randomly at worshipers, killing 50 people and injuring dozens others.  Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described this act of terrorism as one of New Zealand’s “darkest days”.
