7th Anniversary of MH17

It has been 7 years since Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Eastern Ukraine as it was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.  After years of investigations by an international team, four men have been trial since March 2020 in the Netherlands, for their alleged part in downing MH17 and killing all 298 lives on board.

7th Memorial Day for Respected Teachers

29 September 2020 marks the 7th anniversary of the passing of eminent Tipitaka and Pāli Scholar, Venerable Prof. Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and renowned meditation teacher, Acharya Satya Narayan Goenka.  With reverence and gratitude, Nalandians pay tribute to Venerable Anuruddha and Goenkaji for their significant contributions towards humanity and to propagate Dhamma.  We wish both respected teachers the highest bliss of Peace, ‘Santi’.

6th Anniversary of MH17 tragedy

Today marks the 6th anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 which was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.  Three hours after taking off from Schipol Airport, the Boeing 777 was shot down over Eastern Ukraine and all 298 lives on board were lost.

Today, we mark the poignant 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 on 8 March 2014.  Let us spend a moment to reflect on the characteristic of life – its fleeting nature, impermanence, and uncertainty. “Sabbe sankhara anicca’ti” – all conditioned things are impermanent, indeed.

27th anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing

Today we commemorate the 27th anniversary of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s passing.  A revered monk who lived a meaningful and simple life, Ajahn Chah (1918 – 1992) bestowed upon the Buddhist community a legacy which continues to inspire many monks and laity alike.  Many monastics who trained with him at forest monasteries have themselves become renowned and respected teachers.

Remembering the victims of MH17

4 years ago today, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 took off from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at 12.31pm local time on its return leg to Kuala Lumpur.  3 hours later, the Boeing 777 was shot down over Eastern Ukraine, causing the loss of all 298 innocent lives on board.  Sadly, no party was held accountable for the terrorist attack until today.  Justice is still not served.

On 11 March 2011, at 2.46PM local time, a catastrophic 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan near Sendai, causing widespread damages and triggering a powerful tsunami that struck coastal villages and towns with great ferocity.
