Members’ Day at Nalanda Centre

On Monday 31 August, Nalandians from Sri Serdang and Kuala Lumpur branches gathered at our ‘Spiritual Home’ – Nalanda Centre – for Members’ Day.  Members present observed a 3-minute silence to pay tribute to our beloved member, the late Sis. Ooi Sock Khoong, who passed away a week before.  Sis. Sock Khoong was earnest in her community service and diligent in her Dhamma practice.

Nalandians observe ‘Samaggi Day’

On Sunday 30 August, Nalandians in their white shirt and sarong attire, came together at Nalanda Centre for ‘Samaggi Day’, which falls on the last Sunday of every month.  “Samaggi”, which means unity and harmony, is a Pāli word and an important Buddhist principle.

Dharma School students organise Remembrance

Following the advice of Nalanda President to dedicate merits to victims of the recent Sabah earthquake, Nalanda Dharma School students organized a special service yesterday (Monday, 8 June) in honour of those who died in the tragedy.  Also present at the remembrance service were Founder Bro. Tan, School Director Sis. Sunanda Ong, and several Nalandian officers.

Nalanda mourns the loss of Young Lives

Nalanda Buddhist Society members are deeply saddened by the loss of 18 lives in a recent earthquake which struck Mount Kinabalu, Sabah.  On behalf of the Society, Nalanda President Sis. Evelyn Chow expressed her deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who died in the tragedy.

Dedication of merits to Victims of Misfortunes

At Nalanda Centre this morning, devotees gathered to dedicate merits to the casualties of two tragedies in the past week.  Nineteen people died in the earthquake which hit Mount Kinabalu in Sabah; and at least 406 were confirmed dead while dozens were still missing in the ferry tragedy in Hubei, China.

On Sunday 19 April, the Director of Pustaka Nalanda Bro. Ananda Fong gave a presentation on the life of the late Venerable Dr. Walpola Rahula of Sri Lanka; and his immense contribution to the understanding and propagation of Dhamma through his publications and lectures.

This coming Sunday 19 April, Nalanda Buddhist Society respectfully commemorates the good work of a renowned Buddhist scholar – the late Venerable Dr. Walpola Rahula of Sri Lanka.  The late Ven. Rahula Nayaka Thero had contributed immensely to the understanding and propagation of Dhamma through his publications and lectures.

10th Anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami

26 December 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami which struck the coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal, killing more than 230,000 people and displacing another 2 million across 14 countries.  Many families lost their livelihood and every material thing they owned.

MH370 – 9 months on

Today marks 9 months since Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished over the Indian Ocean with 239 people on board.  The missing passengers and their loved ones are always in our thoughts.  Let us spend a moment in quiet reflection and generate thoughts of mettā (loving kindness) and karunā (compassion) to the grieving families.  May they find Strength and Peace.
