On Saturday 20 December, 18 members from Central Kedah Buddhist Association paid a visit to Nalanda Centre, Sri Serdang. They were warmly welcome and hosted by Director of Nalanda Centre, Sis. Nandini and Nalandian officers. The group was brought on a tour of Nalanda Centre and Nalanda Youth Centre. Our Kedahan visitors were impressed with the peaceful ambience and colourful design of the Youth Centre.

Read moreFrom 24 – 26 November and 8 – 10 December, two stay-in programmes were conducted for teenagers from Nalanda Dhamma School Sri Serdang. Both programmes were held with the objectives of preparing students for their Dharma School examinations – the Majjhima and Nalanda examinations. These examinations are conducted annually to enhance the students’ knowledge and skills in chanting, doctrines, verses from the Dhammapada, and Buddhist culture.

They were warmly received and hosted by Nalandian youths. The group spent 4 hours touring the facilities including Nalanda Youth Centre, Youth Library, and the Main Reference Library.

On Saturday 22 November, they were ready to sit for the course examination at Nalanda Centre. On Saturday 22 November, Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch Free School teachers and facilitators gathered for dinner at NEO Centre, Johor Bahru. Sis. Ng Choy Hoong, the Johor Bahru Branch Free School Coordinator welcomed and thanked all teachers and facilitators for their contributions in making the Free School a success. The Free School classes started in March this year with a total of 15 classes held each week. Sis. Choy Hoong gave a slide presentation on the activities carried out this year and plans for 2015.

After Service Sunday, Nalandians gathered for some updates on the latest developments of the Society. Bro. Branch representatives also took this opportunity to update members on the progress of the programmes carried out by their respective branches.

On Saturday 1 November, a group of 38 students and 2 teachers from the Buddhist Society of Keat Hwa Secondary School in Alor Star, made a half-day visit to Nalanda Centre. They were warmly received by Nalandians, and thereafter everyone joyfully listened to a Dhamma sharing by Sis. Nandini Tan.

On Sunday 26 October, Nalandians gathered in unity to commemorate yet another great Buddhist luminary – Venerable Narada Nāyaka Māha Thero. This commemoration day programme was both initiated and organised by Pustaka Nalanda (the library). The commemoration service began with pūja and chanting, followed by Dhamma teachings by Nalanda Founder Bro Tan. He spoke about values that Ven. Narada held on to, and how the late venerable was a great Buddhist leader for us to emulate and learn from. Read more
On Saturday 25 October, Nalanda Sungai Petani Branch held our monthly Members’ Day at our usual rendezvous place – Gurun Buddhist Association. Branch members who attended the gathering were still feeling joyful over the recent success of our inaugural fund-raising event – the “Melodies for the Heart” concert held a week before that.
