Journey into Kedah’s past

During the recent school holidays, 75 Nalanda Dhamma School students from Sri Serdang and Johor Bahru were privileged to go on a study tour of Kedah’s historical sites and learn about the state’s amazing connection with early Buddhism, going back some 2,100 years!  The tour, which ran from 7 – 10 June, was led by Bro. Tan, an acknowledged expert on Buddhist history.  Among the interesting places visited were Semeling Jetty Complex; Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum in Merbok; as well as Wat Nikrodharam and Rumah Merdeka in Alor Setar.

Special Pilgrimage for Nalandians

Good news for Nalanda members and long-term volunteers!  This December, Nalanda is organizing a pilgrimage to India and Nepal, to be led by our founder-teacher, Bro Tan.  This journey of Dhamma discovery will begin at Bodhgaya – the sacred spot where the Buddha attained Enlightenment 2,640 years ago – and continue on to Rajagaha, Nalanda, Vesali, Kusinara, Lumbini, Kapilavatthu, and Varanasi.

Strengthening Community Fellowship in Kedah

In early October, Nalanda Institute Malaysia organized a special study tour for BPS402 Higher Certificate students to Bujang Valley, Kedah.  The group of 40 Nalanda Institute officers and students enjoyed 3 days of compact learning in and around Sungai Petani, including at the Archaeological Museum in Merbok, and the Sungai Batu excavation site.

Green enjoyment at Organic Farm

On Friday 13 June, a group of 7 teachers and 23 primary school students from Nalanda Free School (NFS) visited the Lady Bird Organic Farm in Semenyih.  The aim of this trip was to provide students with an enriching outdoor learning experience and to strengthen the fellowship between teachers and students.  The students were especially selected for the trip as a reward for their perfect attendance at Nalanda Free School since January!

Dhammaduta & Study Tour to the East Coast

Special invitation to Nalanda members and volunteer-officers!  We are happy to offer the opportunity for Nalandians to join Bro. Tan on a 4-day Dhammaduta and Study Tour to Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, from 17 to 20 July.  Travelling by tour bus, we shall be stopping en route at towns where Bro. Tan will be giving talks.

Nalanda Officers visit Tzu Chi Indonesia

In conjunction with their official visit to Jakarta at the invitation of Buddhist Fellowship Indonesia (BFI), Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan, officers led by Bro. Tong Siong Yeow, and their host the BFI Committee, visited Tzu Chi Foundation’s newly-established centre in North Jakarta.  They were met at Tzu Chi by the country’s head of operations, Bapa Hong Tjhin.

Insightful Study Tour to Northern Malaysia

42 members of Buddhist Fellowship and Firefly Mission Singapore had an insightful 4-day tour to the northern states of Penang, Kedah and Perlis from 17 to 20 April 2014. The highlight of the study tour was a day-long visit to Bujang Valley guided by Bro Tan.

Wonderful Learning Trip to National Science Centre

On Saturday 22 March, Nalanda Free School organized a learning trip for secondary school students to the National Science Centre in Kuala Lumpur.  The aim of the trip is to bring education beyond the boundaries of the classroom and to expose the students to science.

Johor Nalandians visit Kedah & Perlis

Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch members had a very enlightening and enjoyable 4-day study tour to Kedah and Perlis, from 22 – 25 November.  The entourage left NEO Centre in JB on 22 November and stopped over for lunch at our ‘spiritual home’ – Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang.  The group of 30 participants also visited the Buddhist Maha Vihara in Kuala Lumpur for a familiarization tour, thereafter left for Sungai Petani in Kedah.
