Was the Buddha a ‘perfectionist’?

The Buddha was distinguished as ‘the Perfect One’ – He had perfect knowledge of the world and faultless conduct. “By definition, a ‘perfectionist’ is someone who likes to accomplish something perfectly, and finds it difficult to accept anything less than flawless.  No, the Buddha was not a ‘perfectionist’.  He did not have any illusions about perfection.  He truly understood the world and was very clear about imperfections in life.

Tribute to two eminent teachers

Today is the third anniversary of the passing of eminent Pāli Scholar, Venerable Kakkapalliye Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, and renowned meditation teacher, Acharya Satya Narayan Goenka.  Nalandians held a simple tribute to both teachers last night after our weekly meditation session.

He who lived wisely inspires eternally

The late Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda continues to inspire many Buddhists even 10 years after his death.  The memorial service held in his honour yesterday was testimony to that – the large crowd that attended the service occupied 3 floors of Nalanda Centre.

The enduring legacy of the late Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda

Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of Venerable Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda’s passing (on 31 August 2006). Although he had physically left us a decade ago, Ven. Dhammananda had nonetheless left behind an enduring legacy of Buddhist educational and missionary spirit among his followers in Malaysia.

Washing the late teacher’s robe

31 August is the anniversary of the late Venerable K. Sri Dhammananda’s passing; he was the Spiritual Adviser to Nalanda and the ‘Sanghanāyaka Thera’ of Malaysia.  Every year, on the Sunday* preceding 31 August, the upper robe (Pāli, “uttarāsanga”) of the late venerable will be taken out from its case, washed, and dried in the same morning.

Passing of Ven. Polpitiya Kassapa

We are saddened to announce the passing away of Venerable Polpitiya Kassapa Nāyaka Thero, meditation teacher and founder of Rockhill Hermitage, Sri Lanka, on Monday, 18 July 2016.  He was a disciple of the Most Venerable Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Māha Nāyaka Thera, one of the most renowned Theravada monks of the 20th century.

Exhibition on Ven. K. Sri Dhammananda

In celebrating this year’s Wesak ‘Buddha Day’, Nalanda Dhamma School organised a special exhibition themed “A Beacon of Dhamma”, on the life and times of the late Venerable Dr. Kirinde Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero, who was Nalanda’s Spiritual Adviser.  Among the exhibits were writings, publications, and photographs of the late venerable, including rare records of his last years of life and his visits to Nalanda Centre.
