Student Officers’ Stay-in Programme

During the recent school break, eight Nalanda Dharma School (NDS) student officers* participated in a stay-in and training programme at Nalanda Youth Centre from 6 to 8 June. Throughout the 3-day programme, the officers were given opportunities to improve their leadership skills, understand their roles and responsibilities as officers, and to form stronger bonds of friendship with one another.

Nalanda Dharma School Stay-in Programme

From 18 – 20 March, Nalanda Dharma School (N.D.S.) students participated in a 3-day stay-in programme at Nalanda Centre with the theme “A Life Less Ordinary Begins Here”.  The 47 participants, including 5 students from Johor Bahru branch, had plenty of opportunities to build their character, courage and confidence throughout the camp.

Nalanda Dharma School opens in Johor Bahru

The 8th of March was the most important milestone for Nalanda Johor Bahru Branch since its establishment in 2013 as it marked the opening of Nalanda Dharma School there!  It was indeed a wonderful occasion to rejoice over.  This auspicious start of the School in Johor Bahru will serve the needs of a large Buddhist community in this southern-most Malaysian city, and paving the way for teenagers aged 13 to 17 to learn the Buddha-Dhamma.

Lunar New Year Celebration at Nalanda

On Sunday 1 March, Nalandians and devotees gathered at Nalanda Centre to celebrate the festive season.  The celebration was held right after the meaningful “Tea Ceremony” by students showing respect and gratitude to their parents.

‘Day of Gratitude’ at Nalanda Dharma School

On Sunday 1 March, Nalanda Dharma School (NDS) organized a traditional “Tea Ceremony” at Nalanda Centre in conjunction with the Lunar New Year.  This year, the Chinese delicacy of “tang yuan” was served instead of the usual tea.

Delightful children’s learning camp

From 18 – 21 December, Nalanda Dharma School facilitators and students jointly organised a successful camp for 72 children ranging from 8 – 12 years old.  Throughout the four days spent at Nalanda Centre, the children and volunteers resonated with the theme of the camp – ‘love and respect’.

School holiday stay-In programmes

From 24 – 26 November and 8 – 10 December, two stay-in programmes were conducted for teenagers from Nalanda Dhamma School Sri Serdang.  Both programmes were held with the objectives of preparing students for their Dharma School examinations – the Majjhima and Nalanda examinations.  These examinations are conducted annually to enhance the students’ knowledge and skills in chanting, doctrines, verses from the Dhammapada, and Buddhist culture.

Keat Hwa School students visit Nalanda

On Saturday 1 November, a group of 38 students and 2 teachers from the Buddhist Society of Keat Hwa Secondary School in Alor Star, made a half-day visit to Nalanda Centre.  They were warmly received by Nalandians, and thereafter everyone joyfully listened to a Dhamma sharing by Sis. Nandini Tan.
