Happy Outing for JB Branch Nalanda Free School

On Saturday 28 February, a busload of enthusiastic teachers, students and volunteers from Nalanda Free School (JB) set off for their first outing together to a few places of interest.  Their first destination was a farm in Ulu Tiram, where they learned how to grow vegetables from seedlings till the harvesting stage.  By courtesy of the farm-owner, everyone got the opportunity to harvest their own “rose lettuce” using the “two-finger method”.

Nalanda officers visit senior citizen home

On Sunday 30 November, Nalanda’s Deputy President Bro. Lee Teck Beng, Board Member Mrs. Choo, and Director of Nalanda Centre Sis. Nandini visited ‘Rumah Warga Mas Penyayang’ (Translation: “Caring Senior Citizens’ Home”), a newly-opened facility to house senior citizens in Seri Kembangan.

On Sunday 28 September, Bro. Ooi Chin Chye and Sis. Teh Soo Tyng, Manager of “Eastern Horizon” Buddhist magazine, visited Nalanda Centre in Sri Serdang.  They were warmly received by Nalanda’s Honorary Secretary Sis. Buddhinī and Nalanda officers.

Green enjoyment at Organic Farm

On Friday 13 June, a group of 7 teachers and 23 primary school students from Nalanda Free School (NFS) visited the Lady Bird Organic Farm in Semenyih.  The aim of this trip was to provide students with an enriching outdoor learning experience and to strengthen the fellowship between teachers and students.  The students were especially selected for the trip as a reward for their perfect attendance at Nalanda Free School since January!

‘BFI House’ officially launched

On Sunday 4 May, Buddhist Fellowship Indonesia (BFI) officially launched its new centre – the “BFI House” – in a delightful ceremony. Located in the North Jakarta District of Kelapa Gading, the 4-storey centre houses an elegant shrine hall, a multi-purpose room, and ample space for future office and library.

Dialogue with PATRIA in Jakarta

As part of the programme for their official visit to Jakarta, Nalanda officers met up with the Executive Committee of PATRIA (“Pemuda Theravada Indonesia”) for an interactive dialogue session on Saturday, 3 May.  PATRIA is a national body representing Indonesian Theravada youths; it has branches and activity centres in many provinces throughout the country.

Joyful realization of BFI House, Jakarta

This Wesak month must be a very significant one for members of Buddhist Fellowship Indonesia (BFI) as they celebrate Buddha Day (or ‘Hari Waisak’ in Indonesia) at their marvelous new ‘home’ – the BFI House.  After 8 years of operating from rented premises, BFI has moved into their delightful and welcoming new centre located in Kelapa Gading District, North Jakarta.

Nalanda Officers visit Tzu Chi Indonesia

In conjunction with their official visit to Jakarta at the invitation of Buddhist Fellowship Indonesia (BFI), Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan, officers led by Bro. Tong Siong Yeow, and their host the BFI Committee, visited Tzu Chi Foundation’s newly-established centre in North Jakarta.  They were met at Tzu Chi by the country’s head of operations, Bapa Hong Tjhin.

Nalanda members explore Kuala Lumpur

Nalandians from outside the Klang Valley who are in Selangor to participate in the inaugural National Members’ Convention from 1 – 3 May took time to explore Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Early in the morning, everyone embarked on a “Heritage Walk” exploring the old streets of KL with its rich history and tapestry of peoples and cultures.
