Kelantanese youths visit Nalanda

During the July school holidays, a group of Kelantanese youths who had participated in the Dhamma-Living Camp for Young Adults extended their stay in Selangor so that they could visit Nalanda Centre.  Having found much inspiration and joy after the camp, the group wished to visit Sri Serdang to continue their learning.

Thai forest monks visit Nalanda

On Saturday 2 July, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the presence of Luang Por Sophon, the Abbot of Wat Bueng Latthiwan, which is a branch monastery of Wat Nong Pah Pong in the Ajahn Chah Thai forest tradition.  As a boon, Luang Por Sophon was accompanied by Luang Por Nusin Santajitto (Abbot of Wat Katthaliwan), Luang Por Siri, Ajahn Thinakorn, Ajahn Pramual, Phra Jirapat and Phra Somchay.  The monastic entourage was on a 2-week visit through Malaysia.

Friends arrive for tomorrow’s ‘Fun Fair’

Today, on the eve of the ‘Fun Fair’, dozens of members and supporters started streaming into Nalanda Centre from Johor Bahru, Kelantan, Kedah and elsewhere.  Many people eagerly jumped in to help prepare for tomorrow’s event as soon as they’d arrived.

Wisdom Park briefing for Ven. Dhammavuddho

On Sunday 19 June, Venerable Dhammavuddho Māhathera, founder and abbot of Vihāra Buddha Gotama in Perak, was briefed by Bro. Tan on the objectives and concept of Wisdom Park.  Ven. Dhammavuddho was at Nalanda Centre to give a Dhamma talk that day.

Comrades from across the causeway

On Saturday 9 July, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the visit by 25 Singapore Buddhist Fellowship (BF) members and volunteers, led by its Deputy President Bro. Jerry Ong.  Their visit was part of the regular exchanges between BF and Nalanda, to learn from each other in order to enhance both organisations.

Scholar monks at Nalanda Centre

On Thursday 26 May, a group of 13 young monks from Sri Lanka visited Nalanda Centre to learn about Buddhist educational work in Malaysia.  These monks were among the best scholars in Pāli, Sanskrit and Sinhalese languages, having excelled in Sri Lankan national ‘Pirivena’ examinations and obtained the first places in those subjects.  They were accorded a special visit to Malaysia courtesy of Venerable Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero of Sentul Temple.

Sayadaw Nandasiddhi visits Nalanda

In late May, Nalanda Centre was honoured by the visit by most Venerable Sayadaw U Nandasiddhi – a well-known meditation teacher and abbot of Nirodhārama Meditation Centre in Ayer Tawar, Perak.  Sayadawgyi was a disciple of the late Sayadaw U Panditābhivamsa, who passed away just a few months ago.

Visit by Sri Lankan temple officers

Four officers of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Buddha Holy Tooth Relic Temple) in Kandy, Sri Lanka recently visited Nalanda Centre for a meeting with founder Bro Tan.  Led by one of its Directors, Mr. Gamini Bandara, the officials had a two-hour discussion on recent educational programmes run by the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

Indian Buddhists visit Nalanda Centre

On Saturday 7 May, a group of visitors from the Mahabodhi Society of India (Hyderabad Branch) dropped in at Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang for a familiarization tour.  The group of a dozen elders was journeying through Malaysia and Indonesia.  Upon arrival at Nalanda, they were warmly welcomed by Nalandian officers and brought on a guided building tour.

Cheerful visitors from SKE Malacca

On Saturday 7 May, a large contingent of 55 members, volunteer teachers and Dhamma School students from Seck Kia Eenh (SKE) Temple (or formally known as Malacca Buddhist Association) came to Nalanda Centre for a visit.  The group was on a one-day tour of several Buddhist centres in the Klang Valley, led by the temple’s Deputy President, Associate Professor Tan Kim See.
