Youths & Dhamma School students learn and serve together

On 18 – 19 June, 45 Nalanda youths and Dhamma School students gathered for learning and service at Wisdom Park. Over the two days, they developed strong bonds of friendship and learnt the importance of the community in ensuring continuous learning and growth as a young adult.  The Dhamma sharings, activities and service sessions allowed the participants who ranged from ages 14 to 30 to understand the value of spiritual friendship. Participants felt great joy in learning and serving together as a Buddhist community that is rooted in wholesome values.

Nalanda Leaders’ Retreat this weekend

This Saturday 9 July, Nalanda leaders from all the divisions and branches will congregate for a 3-day retreat at Wisdom Park.  This important gathering carries the theme ‘Heart of a Buddhist Leader’ and aims to facilitate discussions on pertinent issues in carrying out the Society’s educational mission, as well as to further enhance leadership skills.

Hosting Sri Lankan monks and scholars on Teachers’ Day

On Monday 16 May, Wisdom Park welcomed a group of 11 Sangha members and scholars who came to learn more about the Buddhist educational efforts in Malaysia.  They were amongst the top scholars throughout Sri Lanka in Pāli, Sanskrit and Sinhalese languages, having excelled in national Buddhist examinations there.  They were invited to Malaysia on a study tour courtesy of Venerable Sri Saranankara Nayaka Thero, Nalanda’s Spiritual Adviser.

Hands Together & Hearts Connected at 8th Nalanda Convention

From 30 April to 3 May, more than 130 Nalanda members and core volunteers from Serdang headquarters and all branches gathered at Wisdom Park in Kuala Kubu Bahru to participate in the 8th National Nalanda Members’ Convention.  It was a joyous reunion of Nalandians as many have not met in the two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions.

An elusive Malayan icon

What animal is black and white, weighs up to 300 kg, lives in the jungles of Asia, and is not a Giant Panda?  It is ‘Tapirus indicus’ – or commonly known as the Malayan Tapir.  This inhabitant of our lowland jungles is the largest of 4 species of tapirs in the world, and the only one found in Asia.

Don’t cut down trees, plant them instead

Around the world, people and animals are feeling the heat of global warming, and suffering from the effects of large-scale environmental destruction and degradation.  Worldwide, a staggering 29,000 trees are cut down every minute!  That’s 1.7 million trees in an hour, or 41 million trees destroyed in just a single day!

Buddhist Flag raised in Wisdom Park

On Saturday 29 February, Nalanda leaders and members raised the Buddhist Flag at Wisdom Park for the first time ever.  A universal symbol of Buddhist faith, the colours on the flag exemplify Buddhist ideals, and the timeless truth of Dhamma.
