Education & Career Workshop

Nalanda Youth Centre is organising an Education & Career Workshop on Saturday 16 April, from 2 – 6 pm at K. Sri Dhammananda Centre in Sri Serdang. The workshop will serve as a platform for secondary school students and graduates to understand their personal character, learn about the potential of their education path, and plan for their future amidst the changing global environment.

A night of togetherness

On Saturday 21 September, Nalandian youths celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at K. Sri Dhammananda Centre with good friends.  The evening started with a workshop conducted by Sis. Sunanda on ‘Meaningful Friendship’.  Through experiential activities, participants learned about the qualities of a true friend, as preached by the Buddha in the Mitta Sutta (AN7.35).

United Nations ‘Day of Vesak’

The United Nations (UN) Day of Vesak kicked off this week in Vietnam with the participation of 1,650 international delegates from over 100 countries.  The opening ceremony in Ha Nam province also brought together 20,000 Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns and followers.

Better parenting through effective communication

On 10 March, Nalanda Dhamma School organised a Parenting Workshop for parents and facilitators to explore effective strategies in understanding and connecting with our children.  Dhamma speaker and counsellor, Bro. Ooi Boon Keat started with an exercise to list out our expectations towards our children and vice versa.  Parents realised that our expectations greatly outweigh that of our childrens’ capabilities and reflected that we must be realistic to avoid causing unnecessary stress and conflicts.

Nalanda Education Workshop 4.0

On 22 December 2018, 80 Nalanda officers across Malaysia gathered at Nalanda Centre for a 1-day workshop themed “The Culture of Awareness-based Learning”.  In his opening speech, Chairman of Nalanda Education Team (NET) Achariya Vijaya Samarawickrama highlighted that the worth of teachers is in making a positive impact on the lives of their students.

Workshop sets forward direction

The 3rd Annual Nalanda Education Workshop (N.E.W.) was conducted on 20 January 2018 to re-align our programmes and activities to fit Nalanda’s education philosophy.  Nalandian education officers from all over the country convened for this important training which provided deeper insights into the importance of integrating Dhamma knowledge (‘vijja’), practice (‘carana’), values, and culture into our approach to Buddhist education.

Joyful return to Sri Serdang

A team of 8 Nalandians from Kedah travelled to Nalanda Centre Sri Serdang on 20 – 21 January to attend the 3rd annual Nalanda Education Workshop (N.E.W.).  The one-day workshop provided much clarity on the philosophy and direction of Buddhist education, as well as strategies to promote ‘deep learning’.
