Nalanda Centre will be hosting renowned and inspiring Dhamma teacher, Ven. Thubten Chodron, on her upcoming visit to Malaysia.  Ven. Thubten Chodron is the Founder and Abbess of Sravasti Abbey – a Tibetan Buddhist monastery for monks and nuns in America.

UPM Buddhist Society marks 50th anniversary

On Saturday 1 October, the UPM Buddhist Society (PBUPM) celebrated its 50th anniversary with an appreciation dinner in Shah Alam attended by its members, past and present.  The society was established in 1966 by staff members of then College of Agriculture Malaya, which was upgraded in 1973 to University of Agriculture Malaysia (in Malay, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia or UPM). In 1998, its name changed again to Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Malaysians pray for Nepal earthquake victims

On Sunday 17 May, Malaysian religious groups held a joint prayer session in Kuala Lumpur for the earthquake victims in Nepal.  The devastating quakes killed more than 8,600 people and caused untold damages to the country’s infrastructure.  Representatives of the Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities took turns to recite chants or prayers on stage, witnessed by a large congregation.

Special Talk on Buddhist History in Kedah

On 10 October, Nalanda Founder Bro. Tan was invited to Central Kedah Buddhist Association in Sungai Petani to give a keynote presentation on the “Buddhist Presence in Kedah”.  The special talk was in conjunction with the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia’s “Dharma Walk” programme held at the same venue.  Members from more than 20 Kedahan Buddhist societies attended the event.
