Ven. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero launching the Mudita Library in July 2000

The Mudita Library was declared open by the Late Ven. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero in July 2000, in conjunction with Asalha month observance.  It was at that time the first and only Buddhist library in Serdang. Bro.Tan had donated his entire collection of Dhamma books to start the library, and with further donations and acquisitions, the collection reached almost 2,000 books after one year.

When Nalanda Buddhist Society was established in 2003, Mudita Library was adopted as Nalanda’s Library.  It was the precursor to Pustaka Nalanda today.

Ven. Dhammananda made many trips to Sri Serdang; but this was evidently one of his happiest.  The Late Venerable was proud to see the precious collection of reference materials made available to the public in Serdang, which included a set of Tipitaka from the Pali Text Society.  In his opening speech, Ven. Dhammananda inspired many with a memorable exposition, including this wonderful quote:-

Other religions claim to have originated in heaven and descended to Earth… But Buddhism originated from an Enlightened mind on this Earth and transcended heaven!”
