‘The Happiness Equation’ at Kelantan Dhamma Camp

We thank all 120 participants and 109 volunteers for making this camp a memorable experience.

From 13 to 16 December, 120 teenagers gathered at Wat Machimmaram, Kelantan for a Dhamma learning camp themed “The Happiness Equation”.  This is the 10th camp in 8 years co-organised by Persatuan Peranakan Cina Kelantan, Persatuan Meditasi Mettarama Kota Bharu, Dhammarakkhita and Nalanda Dhamma School.  Campers were introduced to components of true happiness which is experienced by one who is free from craving and with kind thoughts for oneself and others.

The quality of contentment is an essential Dhamma practice and the antidote to endless craving.  We should reflect on what our true needs are instead of giving in to our wants or desires.  When we learn to be contented with what we have, we can stop the greedy chase after pleasures and momentary happiness.  They also learned about cultivating mental states of gratitude and loving-kindness in any situation they may be in.

Nalanda Dhamma School expresses our appreciation to the local community and volunteers in Kelantan who have always been very supportive.  May the young campers progress in life with confidence, contentment and gratitude.
