Undergraduates learn about bonds of fellowship

The session commenced with taking the Three Refuges and Five Precepts.

The Fellowship Undergraduate Network (F.U.N.) programme is at its halfway point with its participants gathering last Saturday 21 October for their third session.  The university students explored the Sangaha Sutta (Anguttara Nikaya 4.32) with Bro. Lim Ajit, to better understand the foundations of positive social and familial connections.

In the Sutta, the Buddha related to his disciples the four grounds for the bonds of fellowship – generosity, kind words, beneficial help and consistency.  When we put effort into building wholesome relationships with those around us, we will benefit from being part of a support system in which we are also a contributor.

Bro. Lim Ajit related how we have the ability to positively strengthen our relationships with everyone around us.

Bro. Ajit also gave the group many examples of what we can do to build the bonds of fellowship.

The impact of our fellowships moves beyond our immediate circle to the wider society, as taught by the Buddha –  “These bonds of fellowship [function] in the world like the linchpin in a moving cart.” We hope that the youths are now able to better understand how we can play our part as a good friend and thrive as a contributing member of the society.
