On Sunday 10 November, Nalanda members and devotees learned about cultivating patience and tolerance with Ven. Dr. Chandima who started by distinguishing that tolerance is about accepting external differences or discomforts without resistance whereas patience is inward in nature, about how one maintains composure through challenging situations.
Developing patience is crucial in our Dhamma practice because it is the foundation for wholesome thoughts, speech and actions. With patience, we will naturally have more gentleness, compassion and consideration. Ven. Chandima also shared about how one can practice tolerance through mindfulness and non-reactivity. We can firstly acknowledge our reactions then challenge our assumptions and respond with empathy.
