Ven. Dr. Chandima also shared the threefold ways for wisdom acquisition – acquired by learning, through rationalisation and cultivation
On Wednesday 9 April, Ven. Dr. Chandima guided Nalanda members and devotees in meditation and gave a Dhamma talk on ‘How to overcome the Five Hindrances in meditation’. He guided the meditators to be aware of our emotional state and as we breathe in and out mindfully, to embrace and calm those states.
The Five Hindrances – sensual desire, ill will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and worry, and doubt, are mental defilements which obstruct spiritual progress and mindfulness leading to the decline of wisdom. To investigate the hindrances, Ven. Dr. Chandima introduced a practical tool, namely the R.A.I.N. methodology – R- Recognise it, A- Accept it, I- Investigate it (physically, emotionally, energetically, cognitively, motivationally) and N- Non-identification (To not identify with it but know it is a passing process).
Ven. Dr. Chandima stressed that, in order to investigate the Five Hindrances, it’s important for us to undertake the full course of the R.A.I.N. methodology.
We thank Ven. Dr. Chandima for the insightful teaching and invite you to also learn from him in the recorded talk at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2EJa9y3q4.
